Thinking about in-season catcher trades between rivals, Elston Howard going from the Yankees to the Red Sox on August 3, 1967 is notable. Near the end of his career at age 38, Howard was nonetheless a former MVP who’d won Gold Gloves & made numerous All-Star teams. A valuable pennant-chase pickup.

This is the third time in Tigers history that they’ve scored in every inning they batted, joining: 8/2/14 (batted in 8 innings of 9-inning game) 6/30/1912 (batted in 6 innings of a game that went 6 innings, 2nd game of doubleheader) h/t @EliasSports

Here's a fun one from the game notes: Gunnar Henderson has reached base in 28 consecutive games at Fenway Park to begin his career. That ties Bernie Williams for the longest career-opening streak by a visitor at Fenway (1991-1997 for Williams)

Interesting play at Fenway. With a runner on second & Chandler Simpson at the plate, Red Sox 1B Willson Contreras charged in so close that he could almost shake the speedster's hand (only a slight exaggeration). Simpson did bunt, but not to Contreras, who couldn't outrun him to first.

The one bright spot with Fox putting one of their lesser play-by-play announcers on today’s match presumably means we get Darke or Fletcher tomorrow for Argentina-England. And I would certainly hope we get Darke or Fletcher for the final.
