How? How? How? Is this the number one story on the front page of a national / international newspaper? Someone no one’s ever heard of had resigned from Cambridge because…? What?

We have a power cut in hortaleza / Manoteras, Madrid. Looks like just our local area. Traffic lights, too. About 20 minutes so far #cortedeluz #cortedecorriente #apargon
I love Jonathan Liew’s writing. But as he usually writes about football, I don’t often read his articles. However, when he is let loose on a subject like immigration, there’s no one better. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Ceuta was a carnival of anti-migrant content for hateful opportunists on the right – and a lesson for the left | Jonathan Liew
It was framed as a perfect storm because nativists dearly wanted it to be. Looking on, progressives failed to meet the moment too, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Liew

I told my flatmate: "You've got to hear the new Arab Strap single. It's great." He listened for two minutes and then asked me what language it was in. open.spotify.com/track/3KQeQp...

When someone posts something brilliant and you follow them and then discover that this post was an outlier and they basically only post about football
At La Vaguada shopping centre in Madrid Streams of vapour coming down from the ceiling, like it was so warm outside and so cold in here that it was like dry ice. And then the smoke alarms went off. And then there was a mad panic and everybody was evacuated. And then a smell of burning. #lavaguada
Why are so many Paul McCartney songs “about” birds? blackbird, bluebird, long tailed winter bird, jenny wren, this one (the swan), single pigeon? I only realised this today after putting my Macca playlist together and unconsciously grouping the birds together: open.spotify.com/playlist/6CT...

This sentence construction makes my teeth itch. Better: Even though his job looked secure… / Although his job seemed to be secure
Despite his job seemingly looking assured just a few weeks ago, Gianni Infantino’s position as President of FIFA is now in jeopardy. Watch the full episode of the Fourcast now: youtu.be/PrAe5m4t-w4
Tempted to go buy an egg and see if you actually can. I touched one of these slides and I reckon they’d rip your flesh off and cook it in seconds. In most countries , they’d be cordoned off in this heat. In Madrid, however, help yourself.
Shaboozey: People clearly like songs about drinking, so I’ll give them what they want.
Related to my late quote post, I was in an online class once, and a student asked what the Spanish word “atico” was in English. I said “There are two possibilities. It’s easier if I show you. Let me share my screen: “Here’s an attic” [shows photos of attics] “And here’s Penthouse”
May I suggest that if you want to remember the name of Alan Cumming's latest TV show, you do not type "cumming bbc" onto your work computer.

Hannity: "My President, Lindsey probably has a heavenly version of Mar-a-Lago. It may even be a little bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if he added one big beautiful ballroom and an arch somewhere on the property. Because he would want to obviously duplicate his dearest friend in life. You."
Me and my best friend, who is Greek, went to see the Odyssey last week, and at the end, he was furious. How dare Nolan make this? How dare he ignore the emotional arcs? How dare he, I kinda stopped this at that point, but basically it wasn’t what he’d had in his head since he was a child.
It’s impossible to say “freekeh” without sounding a bit “fonkeh fonkeh fonkeh”.
Off to the swanky Madrid opera house tonight to see @divinecomedyhq.bsky.social for the second time this year (and probably about 20th in total).

I went to a craft market because that’s a Saturday kind of thing to do. But I wasn’t in mood for buying a linocut print of a Cornish beach, a screen printed badger t-shirt or some “all natural” hand cream. To be honest just walking up the stairs to take this photo exhausted me because drugs.
Ever so occasionally, I take the cover off my iPhone. So slim! So sleek! So pristine! My precious! And then I turn it back into an ugly toad again.
The biggest wildfires are around 80 to 100 km from Madrid, but the smoke plume dominates the skyline. (Thankfully, the wind isn’t currently blowing towards us.) Authorities say they’re the most severe wildfires on record in the area, and they’re out of control. #incendios
Not sure what is worse, that the Bowie estate presumably signed off on this, or that Meta either didn't realise or didn't care that Five Years is about the apocalypse
