Just watched an All in the Family where Mike is a ventriloquist, and his puppet is Gloria doing a Mae West impression, and it might be the most erotic thing I have ever seen
Just watched the second episode of Season 8 of All in the Family, about Archie cheating on Edith, and I don't think TV has ever managed anything better. As I've said before, sometimes there's no louder sound than the silence of a studio audience.

Oh man. I'd completely forgotten about the BBC2W Ivor The Engine promos. All new, with Oliver Postgate and Anthony Jackson returning. They're up there with the Palin-voiced Clangers series in terms of bringing something back and it being just *right*. Here's one.

I note that the BBC's new audio drama about an intimacy coordinator has an episode called "Gag Order".
And now I find out that the reason for this seems to be that the next series has some special one-off events, Gladiator v Gladiator, etc. Which is why you shouldn’t pre-judge and worry about this nonsense, and just LET THEM MAKE THE DAMN SHOW AND JUDGE IT ON BROADCAST, YOU DICKHEAD
John J. Hoare@dirtyfeed.org · last wk.I am vaguely grumpy at reports that the next season of UK Gladiators is 4 events + Eliminator, rather than 5 + Eliminator. It was OK-ish for the celeb editions, but only just. One joy of Gladiators is that in a TV landscape where shows are stretched out to fill the hour, Glads felt jam-packed.
It really is nice to have some live-ish music on BBC One on a Saturday night. (Live-ish doesn't give anything away, when the same concert is on an hour earlier on Radio 1.)
Just read a contemporary review of Mary which criticises the fact that too many of the jokes come from self-reflexive gags at the expense of showbusiness. Yeah, and Men Behaving Badly had too many jokes about lads causing trouble.
Why can't you play hide-and-seek in a Chinese restaurant? Because it's always spoilt by the Peking duck.

Weird thing in All in the Family: "Gloria is Nervous" gets a very muted audience reaction, while the second part of "Birth of the Baby" gets huge responses, including each cast member getting entrance applauses for the first time ever.
Standard reminder that the BBC's linear channels are in fact "digital", have been entirely since 2012, and lots of money was spent telling audiences this.
Back to writing about Mary today. Thank God I'm nearly done with it, this has dragged on long beyond what it should have done. No wonder nobody's bothered to disentangle any of this before.
