I believe Stancil (who I have no beef with) can be explained in evolutionary terms. Social media promotes argument - we agree that’s just an inherent feature of it. So it’s natural social media would produce a person who argues with anyone over anything at any time for any reason. Pure argument.

Since people are still relentlessly abusing me over this, here’s why the so-called “boots theory” doesn’t make any sense. First, what is it? Some people have suggested I haven’t done the background reading, but it’s not a deep idea. It’s from a passage that’s four sentences long.

Another Nolan Odyssey take: I liked that Odysseus shows his “I am the thing which brings down my civilisation by ignoring the values which bind people together” through not caring about people getting properly buried. Less important to us, HUGELY important to the Greeks.

It’s common to think of the Second World War as bringing colonial practices home to Europe, especially re German conduct in the East. But has anyone made this argument about strategic bombing? I can see a through-line with interwar British colonial practices, and Harris is an imperialist caricature.
