Last couple of birds enjoyed in Isles of #Scilly Pectoral Sandpiper & Black Redstart making the trip list about 80 species, without trying too hard #UKBirding
Day 3 & 4 in Isles of #Scilly Went back for seconds of lifer Wilson's Snipe once it was confirmed by underwing. From above the impression was of a large Jack Snipe. Shooters Pool was delightful, much bird activity incl YBW, Lesser Whitethroat, Blackcaps & Water rails. Also Jack Snipe & Firecrests 🪶
Day 2 in Isles of #Scilly Cycled down to the Sapphire for a pelagic via RC Starling. At sea: 200 Grey Phalarope, Great Shears, year tick Sooty & Cory's. Euro & a Leach's Petrel. Best moment was being still on the water surrounded by many of the above & dolphins close too. Stormie by Vickie Heaney 🪶
Great first day in Isles of #Scilly Scillonian sea watching was fun: close pods of dolphin & porpoise, year tick Stormies & Grey phalaropes. Headed straight for distant views of lifer, Sora. Went back for more after picking up hire bikes, my first cycling in 7 years. Both were a blast #UKBirding
Bonaparte's Gulls. The 1st pic was a lifer in 2019. Oare Marshes returning bird in summer plumage. Very grateful that someone pointed it out to me. Pic 2 & 3 are the same bird on Sept 3rd '26. Got straight on it, affirming learning 🙏 The bottom pic is a county first beaut in May 2021 🪶
Found 2 Dotterel @flamboroughbird.bsky.social in field just south of motorway hedge @birdguides.bsky.social
Lapland Bunting just hopped up onto the fence by the bridge at Salthouse, Norfolk at 3.45pm. Happy birthday, birding 🪶 @birdguides.bsky.social #UKBirding
And the Leach’s Petrels kept coming…..phenomenal passage around New Brighton/Leasowe. Up to 30 birds, some over Leasowe beach on low tide. Also Manx, Sarnies, Med Gull & Merlin. Picking up the Cheshire Baird’s Sandpiper on way home. Fantastic day! @mybirding.bsky.social @dawnbirder.bsky.social
If life gives you westerlies, make your way west 🪶 Afternoon at Leasowe & morning at New Brighton spotting lifer: Leach's Petrels. Manxie & Swallows too. A group of juve Herring gulls playing with a ball was fun. Good to bump into @ochrurosbirder.bsky.social @mybirding.bsky.social #LowCarbonBirding
The stars've aligned & led to a return to #PatchBirding Start of the week best were Otter, a brief 2w Med Gull & first patch Wigeon whistles of the winter. We're doing alright for Whinchats this year, clip is from today. A lovely Willow Warbler, YLG & juvenile Common Gulls too #LowCarbonBirding 🪶
Spurn wasn't likely to be birdy with westerlies, but jamming Western Bonelli's y'day kept me hopeful. In the end, twas a day of enjoying time with birds & people. Best was sea watching: vis mig, late Swift, Arctic Skuas, Manxies, Terns, 1st Common Gull of autumn. Grey Plovers, Blackwits & a Sprawk 🪶
A sprinkling of quality with Western Bonelli’s Warbler, Barred Warbler, Grey Phalarope, Curlew Sandpiper and Jay while a Brambling was at RSPB Bempton . Full details here flamboroughbirdobs.org.uk/sightings/11...

If you're planning to go the coast this weekend, in Ireland or the UK, please look out for colour-ringed Oystercatchers. New blog about juveniles tagged in Iceland: wadertales.wordpress.com/2026/09/03/a... But where are their colour-ringed parents? #UKbirding #IrishBirds
Last minute decision to head to the east coast. Flamborough today, Spurn tomorrow. Excitement with an Arctic Skua chasing terns. Year tick Red-throated Divers. A timely Western Bonelli's Warbler was reported just as I was leaving. Spot Flys & a Barn Owl were a cracking bonus. #LowCarbonBirding 🪶
Red-backed Shrike near Chesterfield 🪶 #DerbyshireBirds
RSPB Dungeness late afternoon from Firth VP, in deteriorating light, the White-winged Black Tern and 2 of the Black Terns present on Burrowes today. #PWC2026 #Birds #Birding #Kentbirding #Ukbirding
Cracking afternoon at Oare Marshes. This bird was my first Bonaparte's Gull in 2019. Incredibly, it has summered in Kent for circa 14 years. Ad Med Gull, Whimbrel, Yellow Wag, 100s of Redshank, Curlew, Blackwits, Common Sand/small waders Nice 6 mile round trip from 🚂 #LowCarbonBirding #KentBirding 🪶
Headed southwest for a pelagic, stopping off for a few birds along the way. Daventry for Pectoral & Curlew Sandpipers & back for seconds of the Long-tailed Shrike. A proper beaut now. It never did get that pellet up 🪶 #UKBirding
Local year tick waders. Arrived at the huge A52 pit for Red-necked Phalarope just as the light was going & 100s of BHGs dropped in. This isn't going to be easy, thinks I. If I find it, I'm a good birder, if I don't find it, I'm rubbish. Does anyone else do that? Little Stint was a breeze #UKBirding
A bit uninspired recently, but there's always stuff to learn so I spent a few hours at Frampton Marsh, Lincs today. Marsh Farm Res: circa 81 Dunlin, 18 Ruff, 5 Avocet, 3 LRP, 1 Snipe, 1 Blackwit, 3 Teal, 2 Shelduck. On the walk: juve Green Wood, lots of Yellow Wags & Hirundines #LowCarbonBirding 🪶
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It's a plane! Surprise excitement on Thursday, The Red Arrows (Hawk fast-jets, bottom collage) happened to be putting on an airshow nearby. Some great names: Fairey Swordfish (the grey one) & a Boeing Stearman. #PlaneSpotting
A little midweek wader fix for #WaderWednesday From a recent visit to RSPB Frampton Marsh in Lincs. Wood Sand, Dunlin, Ruff, Avocet & Black-tailed Godwit. 12 other species on the day too incl Whimbrel (phwoar) & a headstarted Curlew #UKBirding
The Redstarts have stayed-over. Have you looked into a more beautiful pair of eyes recently? They are really exploring the garden - hopefully for a few days. There are still plenty of insects down in the Willow scrub area. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social #Birds#Redstarts #Dorset
Noticing Jason Arday in the media I could see that here was a Black person being scapegoated. So angry at what the right wing press has done. What's happened to journalism? I hear #socialism is a RW press target too. So here's one of my socialist family members #BLM www.instagram.com/reel/DcAxB__...

You’ve probably heard the campaign’s issues with the unaffordability of housing in the #lewisham Shopping Centre redevelopment plans. But besides the price, it’s important to look at what type of homes they are and who could live there. The 2011 census found that over 12% of Lewisham families were overcrowded, and a 2021 housing allocations review reported over 5,000 families on the housing register lived in overcrowded conditions. This disproportionately impacts racialised people and single parents with children. Overcrowding can impact children’s school attendance and performance, strain family relationships, and cause anxiety, stress, and #depression So it’s not just the cost of housing - it’s how many bedrooms are in each home, and whether or not Lewisham can be a place where families can thrive. But for the past 20 years, Lewisham Council has consistently approved planning permissions for studios, 1- and 2-bedrooms homes. Now, over 60% of homes in Lewisham have two bedrooms or less.Only 9% of Landsec’s 1700 new homes at the Lewisham Shopping Centre will have 3 or 4 bedrooms; everything else, including the student and co-living, has 2 bedrooms or less. So Landsec’s plans are even worse than Lewisham’s already-poor record for families. Building housing for childless, middle-class young professionals risks furthering the churn of families out of Lewisham and worsening #overcrowding
