I appreciate this explanation thread about the history of the National Emergency Act. It raises (for me) the broader issue of statutory responses to SCOTUS’s role in enabling norm-shattering, an entire can of worms I didn’t get into.

1/ It's important that any thinking about post-Trump reforms think about the relative merits and demerits of rules vs. norms, as @dbernstein.bsky.social does today. But ... goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/restoring-...

Grassley, kicking off committee meeting to vote on Blanche nom, says that Tillis & Cornyn were right to make their demands on corrupt Trump deal, questions why it took Blanche so long to agree. “It’s such a crime it took so long to work out,” he says, kinda missing the crime here….

All women (+Hegseth) behind Trump in the Oval today… because he’s signing an EO for a Military Spouse Commission, and in Hegseth’s military the spouses clearly need to be women b/c what, you want chicks or gay dudes to serve, you some kinda commie or something

Blanche has produced this capitulation on the Weaponization fund and the scope of the IRS immunity. Reportedly Cornyn has now agreed to support Blanche’s confirmation. I remain baffled that “OK I won’t follow through on the corrupt deal I made” is good enough for a US Attorney General nominee.

Trump on the Ceuta migrant situation, per FNC’s Jacqui Heinrich: “It’s terrible. Remember that picture. That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in,” he said, referring to Democrats winning elections. “If the Democrats get in, you will not live a very good life,” he said.

Another feud developing in the right-wing marketplace. Alex Jones, who has been strongly opposed to the Iran war, called for Trump’s impeachment & removal yesterday, prompting Roger Stone to vow to never appear on InfoWars again, leading to backlash from InfoWars folks today.

Right-wing media is currently obsessed with the situation in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on the Africa side of the Strait of Gibraltar. Thousands of migrants have entered Ceuta from neighboring Morocco, captured on chaotic video. Spain is reportedly sending some soldiers to restore order.
