From Tom Edsall’s column. I wish he had specified what he means by “wedge-issue attacks.” I’m also not sure what it means to say that Dems have been “vulnerable” to these things for 60 years. Presumably, he is suggesting that backlash politics has, on balance, harmed the Democrats.

In reality, the Democratic Party has been vulnerable since the 1960s to wedge-issue attacks on such subjects as civil rights, women’s rights, affirmative action, welfare spending, crime, gun control, gay marriage and transgender rights.

A complete & total failure of the constitutional order that this didn't immediately end his presidency. When folks say "He can't do ______," & he has gotten away with 1) a coup attempt; 2) this reverse nullification; & 3) openly monetizing the presidency, I wonder what & who is going to stop him.

I signed this, and I basically never sign these things. I am a skeptic of procedural reform and of the raft of scholarly petitions i've been asked to sign in the last decade. But I think the arguments are compelling for this one.

We’ve been on a 10 year run of colleges shutting down their most unique and valuable departments in favor of bland templated programs that they offer vacuous, mediocre versions of to students who just assume college has always been vacuous and mediocre in this manner.
