Hosea Williams posted on Facebook back on July 18 that Roland Smith who was a conga player with the Chuck Brown band and later was in a dc band called Sluggo has passed away. On WPFW they just said services will be August 7th. Lance R on WPFW said that rap group Kid n Play sampled Smith’s percussion

Julieta Venegas’ set @ the Howard Theatre included some of her her new Norteno album songs that meld her pop sensibility w/ traditional Mexican music, as well as her older classics like “Lento” with its gorgeous melody. She played keys, guitar, & accordion.
