The sad truth about media streaming is that everything is split up between services so much now that it's impossible to watch everything you want to. It's the most annoying thing in the world to be told "I'm sorry, but your bundle of overpriced subscriptions do not apply, and will not get you […]

Are there any #Fediverse platforms like @Castopod@podlibre.social in active development? Not implying that Castopod is unmaintained, just interested in exploring options. I'd love to find something that can simultaneously support podcasts and video clips excerpts side by side. Being able to do […]

I feel like the BBC would be in a very unique position to put up a Loops instance and post clips from all of their various shows. If there's anything that's perfect for vertical short-form videos, it's British comedy. They already do this with Facebook, Instagram, and probably Tiktok. I would […]

After some troubleshooting and investigating, we've migrated over to the latest `alpha` release for #Bonfire. It seems that we've figured out the root cause with the queue problem, which was causing every instance to receive notice of every follower our accounts had during the migration process […]

Things I absolutely do not recommend: going to school to take a math test when you're exhausted. I kept nodding off slightly when trying to do the equations, and it was not a good time. I'd start writing, only for my brain to lose track of what I was doing, thinking I was drawing a picture or […]

Testing.

Hey #FediForum attendees: what was your favorite demo or session?

Huh, in #Bonfire you can just straight up import the JSON file of your last account's entire outbox collection? I'm super curious to see what would happen, but instantly wonder what might break.

Oh. OH. Oh my god, the mad lad brought back the Insta filters! 😁 #Pixelfed Good job, @dansup@mastodon.social ♥️

Okay friends, here's the obligatory cursed 1996 home VHS recording, of a young Sean getting chased by a bee. I have to do this every time I move instances, as part of a tradition.

I managed to get everything off my plate today except for setting up meilisearch. Honestly, I might just do the wise thing and go to bed, and wait until someone can tell me about how to get it working.

I'm honestly really excited to be doing this. I'm a little nervous that people will look at this and say "FEDIVERSE YAHOO!? IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN COME UP WITH?! YOU ABSOLUTE HACK!' But I think the vision is good, and that this could end up being great. fedizen.net/pub/objects/01M4...

OK, who are the experts on #DistributedSystems on the #Fediverse? There is a new #FEP for implementing a scalar #LogicalClock in #ActivtyPub, #FEP4f18. I'm especially interested in mitigations for Byzantine faults in the system; right now, it's kind of hand-wavy based on value and trust […]

Slightly salty to be missing out on #FediForum today. I look forward to seeing the demos and hearing about what discussions took place!

The secret to building for the fediverse? Listen. Listen to your community. Prioritize their feedback. Ship privacy and safety improvements. I have a vision for Pixelfed and Loops, but the community leads the way. Admins thrive when they can customize, curate and control their communities. My […]

#Bonfire Instance goals for today: copy over our server rules, ToS, and Privacy Policy, get Search up and running, move the remaining accounts from our Akkoma instance over here, close down the Akkoma instance, and write a big fancy article about what we're trying to build.

Got Tusky working, which is better than nothing. Some minor issues, avatars aren't showing up currently, so more experiments are necessary. I will miss my beloved Moshidon in the meantime... 🥺

Just setting up my Bonfire...

Rule of thumb for Generative AI: it’s best used for making the most wildly disgusting thing possible. Like an interactive erotica featuring Hagrid and Jabba the Hutt. That’s what I would flood the pro-AI communities with.

Running a PeerTube instance is no joke. While it mostly hums along in the background, occasionally you get things like this. Spectra is a really old PeerTube instance, and has been around for years. On the one hand, it’s a testament to how I’ve been able to keep it running. On the other hand […]

We're currently investigating an ongoing issue with older videos on our instance that no longer play properly. We think we know the cause and a possible fix, but we need to basically fix affected videos one by one. We apologize for this experience, and will try our best to work quickly. If you […]

I’ve been in a rut for about six months now. After talking to my dad for an hour last night, I’ve come to realize that I need to make positive changes for my health and state of mind. I’ve been lagging in a number of areas, from school to hobbies to my personal life. I’m going to take baby […]

Trying my best to be a good boy and patiently wait for the Control Resonant to launch. It comes out tomorrow at 8am my time. I am so excited. Remedy makes great games, and Control is my favorite IP of theirs. Yes, it’s basically “SCP Foundation with the serial numbers filed off”, but the last […]

I was excited to see a new Fediverse-adjacent posting tool come out. Then, I looked at the repo…

We recently updated our bot policy on toot.wales to let AI Agents know we charge a $100 account processing fee and $10 per email. Here's an email I got from one of them. Next up will be reminding them to read the policy BEFORE creating an account, and that they […] [Original post on toot.wales]

Making real progress on laravel-activitypub, a batteries included ActivityPub package for laravel. This will replace federation logic in @pixelfed and @joinloops and make it really easy to implement AP in your own laravel apps! #laravel #activityPub

I blogged a bit about my experience with doing 3D game development with #Godot. This time, I focused on creating character models. https://deadsuperhero.com/3d-game-development-and-godot-part-i-camera-models/

Playing through Fallout 3 for the first time in ages and…God damn, I forgot this one was so dark and depressing. It’s a lot more somber compared to the later games.

I don’t know how to say this without sounding melodramatic, but I have a bad habit of isolating myself from the rest of the world. It’s a negative comfort, a habit of putting off communicating, but I feel incredibly alone. I feel so starved for human connection, but so feeble and weak at the […]
