Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness
Burnham promises ‘pragmatic’ approach to North Sea oil and gas
PM tells reporters the government cannot ignore the energy resource ‘when people are struggling’

When I started building with straw, there were only a handful of people doing it. To put it mildly, universities had very limited interest in it. Now that is changing; #strawbuilding can no longer be ignored. But at the working end, there are still only a handful of people doing it. New papers list🧵
I've seen a lot of comments about the Swiss Club fire spreading due to wooden panelling/boarding, whilst there's an investigation pending, it's far more likely that the lethality and spread of the fire was due to the presence of polyurethane foam, absolutely horrible stuff
"Once ignited, polyurethane acoustic foam can exhibit rapid flame spread across its high-surface-area profile and produce dense, toxic smoke, significantly accelerating fire growth and reducing available escape time," said Dr Peter Wilkinson of Loughborough University. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Fabric is still first if you want to improve comfort, health and affordability Ed. If you are only concerned about carbon sure, go ahead and sideline fabric. But you can expect to see fuel poverty, damp and mould increase. (And don't forget that leakier buildings = more generation & more cables)
Sounds like the end of the 'fabric first' mantra being set out here. Electrifying homes is the way of the future, with solar panels, batteries and heat pumps being the focus of government subsidy.
