You know, sometimes a balance patch for a fighting game seems bad on paper. Like, they buffed a strong character or nerfed a weak one or somesuch. It's rare to feel like things got more dreary. Like a bunch of stuff went from punishable to safe... but got extra combo scaling. Wow... exciting stuff..

Okay, I got the Tokon beta working but after trying every character I think... I'm going to leave it to other people to enjoy. I know it's a very different game, but after playing mvc3 and mvci (even though I'm bad at them) it feels like trying to run in water.
Well, I thought Tokon would be a slam dunk for me but I can't reset my PS account so...?
In the middle of an art revamp, gotta put together a demo some time soon Somehow I STILL haven't figured out a title
Picked up a new book yesterday for the first time in a while and realized a few pages in that it was obviously, let's say, "LLM assisted". Just came back from returning it. Cool. Cool. Cool. Cool.
It's STEAM SUMMER SALE time! Which means I've updated my Steam Curator page with everything I've enjoyed recently. I'll also be picking out the best deals in this thread - bookmark this post! If you like what I do, consider tipping! (Ko-Fi/Paypal) - All tips go towards more indie games to research!

Info-tags aside (for listing stuff) this is 100% personal recommendations on games I've played. Expect a lot of weird, indie, undersold or otherwise mysterious stuff, plus the occasional mainstream fa...

Played a bit of the Mortal Shell 2-trial. It's pretty buggy, as you might expect! Boss health bars disappearing, sound effects not playing, a boss teleported outside of the arena at one point. Still less buggy than Enotria is I think.
Tried to achieve some variety but it turns out, at least for the lesser known stuff, on Steam, I appear to have some favorite genres.
"Urban Myth Dissolution Center" developer MOCHIKIN created a website that lets you share 9 Steam games that you would like to see more widely known. The website will also provide recommendations to similar games based on your picks. 9games.pages.dev
Just beat Grime 2. Fantastic game. Definitely one of the best metroidvania games I've played. Unique style and setting, combat that incorporates all your various powerups and some neat ideas of how to make exploration stay fresh. Not as impactful as the first game, but I don't see how it could be.

I'm sure at least some of those games will be good, but man, someone at Xbox has a type, huh?
Bosch being added as a main cast character is funny to me. It's not that his visual design is bad, but he's such a jobber in the story mode. It's like if Necali started as a story-mode only character and was added in a late season. "Oh, they added that guy that gets beat up a bunch?"
Grime is one of my favorite games in recent years, and Grime 2 (which came out recently) has lived up to my expectations so far. Fun and mysterious. And so pretty!
You should get it. It's some high quality megamans.

Gravity Circuit is going FREE for the next couple weeks. Legit my favourite platformer of 2023. Grab it. Enjoy it. It's fantastic, and replayable with tons of modifiers and difficulty customization. The Mega Man Zero successor we needed. This is all to promote the sequel, which was just announced.

You ever play a game and run up against a seemingly annoying challenge and go "haha, yeah, nah, I'm good" but then sort of end up getting pulled back in over and over to do it anyway? I just finished doing Ascension 10 with all characters in StS2, even though I did like 3-4 of them in StS1...
Just noticed that Zexion is at its cheapest price right now. Extremely cool old-school Metroid-alike, with a little bit of Contra and Mega Man DNA mixed in. Tough as nails (if you don't use accessibility options), tons of great bosses. Built-in randomizer. Don't want to spoil how it escalates.

Jam seems really fun! I wish I was a bit of a faster learner. It takes me a long time to get my hands to not get moves mixed up. She feels like a character where the power comes from being able to flow and never stop doing stuff.

There's probably something I'm not getting, but it seems like the opponent becomes invincible until they recover when you hit them with Anji's overhead.

One that immediately comes to mind is the fight against Mwyah in Environmental Station Alpha. I really like when metroidvanias allow the powers you get to completely transform the sorts of fights it can put on. Mwyah feels like you've accidentally stumbled into a very different game.
What in y’all’s opinion are the greatest boss fights? Not the hardest necessarily, but the most iconic and spectacular. sword saint isshin in Sekiro and Raphael in bg3 come immediately to mind for me
