Communities across the country are canceling their Flock contracts under public pressure. We built a toolkit to help yours be next! Because here’s the thing: these aren’t normal traffic cameras. They log every passing car into a national database law enforcement—including ICE—can search.
We spent the day in the sun and I swear my face is now giving off much more heat than it possibly could have absorbed. My sunburned face should be studied by physicists and energy nerds alike. #energysky
Wow — California got more than half its electricity from solar in May, a world record. The numbers keep rising. www.latimes.com/environment/... via @blancabegert.bsky.social
California produced over half its May electricity from solar, a world record
New batteries to store solar electricity and low demand in May both contributed to high percentage of electricity that came from solar.

Interesting story, worth a read. Also: if you’re not subscribed to @theatlantic.com, it’s worth the $100/yr (esp if you wait until there’s a discount, maybe at the holidays; we pay $75/yr).
Spoke with @theatlantic.com about the oil market's ongoing transfixed fascination with what's happening in China. What we know, what we still don't—and may never—know about China's crude import collapse, and what it all means for the future of the oil market. www.theatlantic.com/economy/2026...
Electric cooking is definitely better than gas for indoor air quality #IAQ. That said, local exhaust (e.g. range hoods) is still critical, even w electric. There is research linking the particulates from cooking (regardless of fuel) to an increase risks of lung cancer. Mostly from aerosolized oils.
Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...
The depth of efficiency is really awe inspiring. EV's are in use in some mining and logging operations and the downhill trip is fully loaded. The uphill is empty, as a result they can work all day or close to it without a fresh charge / battery. Pretty great.
Side note on regenerative breaking in an #EV: there's nothing quite like going downhill and seeing your available mileage *increase*
The mechanical brakes rarely wear much. Most of the braking, unless you drive fast and furious, is regenerative with the motor returning charge to the main battery.
One aspect of electric cars that doesn’t get enough attention among the general public is that there’s basically no maintenance. #EV I hate that I have to spend a bunch of time and money to take my gas car into the shop this week for routine maintenance.
With my last dying breath, my son leans over to hear me say... "My son, promise me you'll never watch tv in a public place with the sound on unless you have headphones..."
Sakura Market just opened in downtown San Jose #dtsj along the Paseo near Park Plaza. Lots of Japanese novelty foodstuffs, as well as a market w prepared meals, veggies, frozen food. Also a full sushi bar and ramen station. Fast $5 ramen FTW.
Habitat *really* needs to up its free calendar game.
Update: the sushi bar is a little pricey, but the spicy California roll was very good.

My new favorite idea, from @monicakeane.bsky.social, is Orchard Plaza (or a Spanish language alternative).
Public can vote in ranked-choice survey through Aug. 3 to recommend a name to replace disgraced labor leader’s.
Not a fan of any of the names. Farmworkers Plaza - sounds like a gathering place for farmworkers Plaza de Quetzalcoatl - too much Plaza de San Jose - very meh Plaza del Pueblo - ok, I guess? Plaza Park - is it a plaza? Is it a park? Who can say

The climate change impacts of cooking w/ electricity (induction) vs. gas is not easy to determine. To calculate it, you'd need to quantify the gas vs. elec used to cook each meal, which is... hard. But if you pay for the 100% clean energy option from your electric utility, it's very easy.
TIL that IKEA sells a mobile induction cooktop that plugs into a normal 120V outlet and it’s only $75 We rented a place with an induction stove a while back and it made me giggle w joy every time I boiled water bc of how fast it was.

It’s easy to think when you come in the house your shoes are clean. We just put a yoga mat near the back door. I went to the backyard for a min, came inside, stepped on the mat, & left a footprint of dust/dirt. You track crap in every time you enter your home, unless you take your shoes off. #IAQ
I've had various arguments on BlueSky about the threats that private equity pose to the housing sector. What people don't seem (want?) to understand is the mindset of PE. The goal is to identify any value surplus in the market and suck it completely dry. Dundon is just one more guy doing this (1/3)
everyone should talk more about how much this guy truly sucks
