The three key requirements for electrolytic hydrogen to qualify -- incrementality, deliverability and hourly matching -- have their foundation in peer-reviewed energy systems research, including work by @wilsonar.bsky.social & our Princeton ZERO Lab (iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...)

Such a huge win for the climate, and also for developing for advancing the technologies, tools and contracting structures that will enable 24/7 carbon-free electricity for everyone. Congrats and kudos to all the public servants and advocates that fought for this outcome. 🔌💡

At long last, the US Treasury Dept has finalized rules for the clean hydrogen tax credit (45V). home.treasury.gov/news/press-r... In general, the rules are based on a strong set of environmental safeguards to ensure "clean" hydrogen is truly clean & provide the certainty industry needs to build. 🔌💡

It's the moment you've been waiting for... a new 2,000 words (ok its a bit more) from me on the 45V hydrogen tax credit. Except this time we have final rules! "3 Pillars" are still in...sort of. Indeed, here is what Meta's spokesperson told RTO Insider... "Meta’s 100% clean energy commitment uses methodologies from the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Annually, Meta matches its electricity use with 100% clean and renewable energy on an annual basis based on megawatt-hours,"

Current corporate carbon accounting practices make this entirely compatible with a hypothetical zero-emissions claim by Meta for the exact same data center. Being clear on where companies are physically sourcing their power is going to be very important in analyzing these claims re: AI

A bit late on the announcement, but I'm happy to say that I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation, "Hot Rocks and H2: Modeling the Role of Emerging Technologies in the Electricity Sector," last month!

Very interesting new research on 24/7 #carbon-free #electricity procurement. What happens if you don't have access to your hourly electricity demand data, and need to use a proxy instead? Turns out, the positive impacts of 24/7 procurement are relatively consistent even when using approximations 🔌💡
