In the class, we spend a good amount of time on data centers- emissions, energy, costs, water, noise, policy, etc, so send me new resources you think I should include. But we also spend a good amount of time on AI risks & opportunities for climate across broader sectors, & how to evaluate those.

Course Summary
The use of Artificial Intelligence enables both opportunities and risks for the energy system and for broader climate mitigation and climate resilience efforts. An understanding of how AI tools affect these systems is essential for decision-makers to be able to protect the public, advance innovation, maximize the benefits, and minimize the risks. Students will use readings, open data, and technical examples to examine emerging AI applications for climate mitigation and resilience, evaluate potential impacts and benefits, and communicate their technical recommendations through policy briefs. Students successfully completing this course will be able to understand a suite of AI tools, and describe how AI can affect energy use, communities, greenhouse gas emissions, and climate resilience.

Days: Mondays and Wednesdays
Time: 8:30AM to 9:50AM (but this font is really small because it's an early time)

In addition to the potential unfolding WUI wildfire disaster in Spokane, WA, numerous other large & fast-moving fires (existing & new) are blowing up under extremely critical fire weather conditions & severe drought conditions from eastern slopes of Cascades eastward into ID/MT.

The scientists then published a research paper demonstrating that the virus showed no signs of being engineered. This paper has not been debunked or retracted. No evidence of engineering has emerged. In the conclusion the paper says, “but it could still be a lab leak.”

Just got done talking about space data centers on @newsnation.bsky.social. TLDR: constellations this large are probably too difficult to build for any company, and the amount of material that they’d introduce to the stratosphere would be pretty bad for the planet. That’s assuming they burn up.

Every NSC director, NatSec analyst, & person with a map has said “the strait of Hormuz is a critical choke point in global energy markets”. Was this not emphatically communicated to WH Principals? Or it was and ignored? Either way, a huge mess up. Also, no permanent NSC Director for 15 months. Why?
