I didn’t know the astounding and truly radical history of the early anti-Zionist Jewish Labor Bund until I read @dfelsenthal.bsky.social historically steeped and eloquent review of @mollycrabapple.bsky.social book, "Here Where We Live Is Our Country"

For @newrepublic.com , I wrote about about the Jewish Labor Bund—who predicted the evils of Zionism from the very invention of the philosophy—and the new book by @mollycrabapple.bsky.social newrepublic.com/article/2121...

It’s true, I did write a Sunday Review about that incorrigible diva Bryan Ferry for @pitchfork.com

Do you know Roxy Music and foppish frontman Bryan Ferry? Here’s a twisty, exquisite essay by @dfelsenthal.bsky.social in @pitchfork.com that limns Ferry’s later work as a juggle of Brit social class and style — and a way of swimming through age and grief. pitchfork.com/reviews/albu...

We were the only UNIONIZED employees he’d ever had, too. I am broke as hell now, but I’ll never regret saying this: EAT SHIT, YOU PATHETIC TWERP. No matter how much cash you accrue, you’ll never know the joy of solidarity. Your life is empty, and you’ll be remembered as a warning to children.

Jeff Bezos told Trump the Washington Post was his worst investment before slashing staff: 'People there are terrible'

I hate to say it, but the colleagues positioning themselves to be pro AI in teaching and curriculum, are probably also positioning themselves to be administrators, and probably aren’t thinking about or don’t care how it will affect teaching, learning, or the careers of those around them.

It's been 16 hours since two journalists were arrested with protesters at Delaney Hall. Even lawyers can't reach them. New Jersey State Patrol made arrests. According to Essex County Jail, everyone is physically there. But they're just "transport." Legal "custody" is with Newark Police Department.

Adam Rose@adamrose.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Update: New Jersey ultimately exempted press with "verified credentials" from curfew. "Verified credentials" wasn't defined. A big group of press was kettled. Most released without issue but two were arrested. Both @nppa.org members. Other press appear to have been denied sight/sound access.

Too Good To Go offers “Surprise Packages” at a big retail discount, and who doesn’t love a surprise? Plenty of us, but the real surprise is that this for-profit company doesn’t make a dent in lowering waste and getting food to those who desperately need it.

The great @jiweinste.bsky.social is back at it for @thebaffler.com, writing about food waste, an app called Too Good To Go that has provided, like, 40% of our meals for the past year, city-run groceries, and City Harvest. Food is necessary. Language, here, is luxurious thebaffler.com/latest/hunge...

Remember the campus protests of 203/24? (I sure hope so.) This bill would have made it illegal, at the NYPD’s discretion, to protest within particular proximity of a school. Unfortunately, a (narrower) bill for religious institutions passed, the pet project of raging genocide advocate Julie Menin

NYPD-delineated no-protest zones would prohibit or chill constitutionally protected advocacy. Thanks to @mayor.nyc.gov for standing up for the First Amendment. knightcolumbia.org/content/knig...

If you're into "Spiritual Jazz," but aren't collecting CHARLES MINGUS albums, you're doing it wrong. Hard to pick just one Mingus LP, but you can't go wrong with this all-time classic. My 1959, original deep groove #vinyl pressing. Basically, just buy everything by Mingus. bsky.app/profile/dfel...

For @pitchfork.com , I wrote about the record that got me obsessed with jazz, and in particular the song “Fables of Faubus,” an unbeatable lampooning of American racism circa the dawn of the 1960s. Mingus forever pitchfork.com/reviews/trac...
