Why does it feel so weird to talk about exercise and left politics? Want to get beyond the dichotomy of overly optimistic lifting for the rev and overly pessimistic rejection of all exercise as social domination?

trying to play peekaboo with my child but he's a European diplomat: me: where'd daddy go? baby: we must articulate a post-daddy vision of strategic autonomy me: peekaboo! baby: my historic relationship with my father is stable despite recent troubles

Doctorow has coined some widely-used concepts, but his arguments have always felt elusively shallow and anemic to me, and this really snaps the reason into focus: It's because they're always and entirely focused on the consumer.

Yesterday Cory Doctorow argued that refusal to use LLMs was mere "neoliberal purity culture". I think his argument is a strawman, doesn't align with his own actions and delegitimizes important political actions we need to make in order to build a better cyberphysical world.

this is absolutely right. i got flack for not going into climate policy in depth in Endgame, but we have a degenerate economic system that makes rational government all but impossible and in fact is destroying government as we knew it. the very idea of ‘rational policy’ is a non sequitur

I always learn from watching @adamtooze.bsky.social but I think he's right when he says in the Q&A that climate/energy is a "nerd's" dream topic. It presupposes rational government—one reason it can feel like a limited lens for understanding the present. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLnx...

Running a low-latency platform for instant comms capable of carrying millions of concurrent audio/video calls requires a pre-built, planet-spanning network of compute, storage and edge presence that requires constant maintenance, significant electricity and persistent attention and monitoring. 4/

its funny to be ruled by internet-brained idiots like this, when anyone with a passing familiarity of this internet political moment knew instinctively this was going to be an incoherent brain rotted gamer white boy who sees politics and violence as entertainment
