I think we tend to forget how cool Facebook, Reddit and Twitter were.

I play games, I develop web apps and am currently working on a game of my own. Developer of VOID PROFIT @corvidfood.com https://store.steampowered.com/app/4687990/VOID_PROFIT/ He/Him
There is this big chunk of the population that believes that there ever was a good Sonic game. I don't know how or why. But they do exist.
When going back from taking my kid to daycare, I listened to Pigeonometry like 5 times. There is a line about white doves there. But, in my language, we don't have the doves/pigeons distinction. So that line hits even harder.
Still, to this day, people do not *actually* see games as art. There is no appreciation for the unreal, the theatrical, the smoke and mirrors. To most people who play games but are not *into* games, they are a linear art form. New is better because it's *more*.
Had to eat dinosaur chicken nuggets for lunch. Was going really fast through the store yesterday, saw them, thought they were cute and bought them for my kid. Today I saw them in the freezer and thought "There's no way I'm making this absolute shit for my kid." They were awful, actually. Hardly food
Being in web dev sucks now. There was this really nice event called Beer.js near me. It's draft beers, web dev talks and a generally cool way to interact with people. They've changed it now. All the talks are about AI and they're advertising is with sending your AI agents to it instead.
Why have sports game player career modes become such power fantasies? Why is my created player averaging 12 ppg in his rookie NHL season? Why did my NBA 2K player score 48 points in his first NBA game? What's up with that? Who finds this fun? It's nothing like the actual sport you supposedly like.
Still have no idea how I beat Max Payne 2 when I was 13. Had a weekend of only turning on my internet-disconnected Windows XP PC and that game fucking destroyed me. Must be because I didn't really understand the story so I wasn't fully depressed and bothered when I got into a level.
I genuinely think that Microsoft's acquisition of Activision will be remembered as the biggest fumble in video game history.
I think I got added to a bot list on Twitter somewhere. Suddenly got a bunch of followers with new accounts, most of which are "Blockchain engineers" or (surprised they still exist) NFT peddlers.
As promised, my previously-abandoned incremental game prototype is now on Itch. Download, give feedback. I'd appreciate it. Completely free. Completely a proof of concept. corvid-food.itch.io/whatever-lea... #gamedev #incrementalgame #sportsgame #indiedev #indiegame

Trying to find normal Bulgarian dubs of the Spider-Man movies for my kid. It got me thinking about No Way Home. The premise makes sense for Spider-Man but it makes no fucking sense for the MCU. Every character in that universe has their face out, identity completely exposed. They kill people.
Walkable cities are so important for public health. I've lost 6kg in two weeks. Got fat really fast (my body tends to go through these fast changes). Been eating better and walking a lot in the last two weeks. I'm talking weird levels like 30000 steps per day. No gym, just walking everywhere.
Made a REALLY specific thing in my incremental game. But that is the point of it. #gamedev #indiegame #incrementalgame #indie #indiedev
The "Hydration Break" thing in the World Cup is so uniquely American. Nevermind that Americans are for some reason OBSESSED with "hydration" but they also figured out a way to put timeouts in a game with no timeouts because god forbid you watch something for 45 minutes with no big ad breaks.
TikTok is absolute bullshit. Uploaded the VOID PROFIT trailer on there (0 views). They flash a message at me saying "Give us €1.89 for a promotion and you can get 2500 views." Of course, I do that, it's 2 bucks. Turns out that I can't promote THAT video but they gave me my money back in "credits."
By the way, I looked through the code, built the game again. It's less of an incremental game and more like a really silly version of Doodle God. Which might be right, I don't know.
By the way, seeing how popular incremental games are kind of makes me wish that I actually focused on that one. But I just...don't find them fun or engaging. Couldn't battle myself for that.
Pulling 7 projects from my external SSD onto my PC right now. Haven't touched these things in years, probably (except for one or two). Will clean up the ones that aren't absolute shit and upload some stuff to itch.io soon. Just for testing the waters if nothing else.(And add actual version control)
Finally a #TrailerTuesday post. Here's the first official trailer for VOID PROFIT. - Travel - Trade - Learn - Survive - Pay your rent WISHLIST NOW STEAM: store.steampowered.com/app/4687990/... #indiegames #indiegame #indie #indiedev #gamedev #spacesim #economy #profit #trading
Going on a seaside holiday again in a week. I know I'm going to have to deal with jellyfish, the one animal I don't understand. Nobody eats jellyfish, they're just assholes. The seagulls have been eating kebabs and pepperoni pizzas from the trash cans for years now. Chill with the stinging.
Going on a diet has been surprisingly tasty. I've had two weeks where I'm eating a small amount of rice noodles with chicken for lunch. Good thing is, those two products, specifically, can be completely different meals depending on the spices you put on them.
I'm so enthralled with the way AI companies try to market things. Sam Altman is all "It can do your chores. It can educate your kids. It can do everything." while the Anthropic guys are like "We are scared of what we've created. We do not know how it works but we're scared." and it's all not true.
I'm interested in how we've moved away from "vibe coding" into "AI assisted programming." There's always a term for "I don't know shit."
I hate when people go "Wow! This is like that sci-fi book I read once!" No. Absolutely not. These books didn't just pop out of people's imagination. They have themes, which we did nothing about. Like, for example, the Strugatsky brothers' "Hard to be a God" is not a "What if..."
VOID PROFIT runs great on the Steam Deck! Text scales correctly, Steam Input works. It's also a great Steam Deck game. #gamedev #spacesim #indiegame #steamdeck
There is a positive to AI. It's getting rid of the stupid "coding task" step of job interviews. Like, yeah, I've been a developer for 10+ years and you need to check if I can work with a RESTful API. Fuck off, really.
