PE buys local HVAC, plumbers, electricians, etc. Same name, new controls, with scripts, tablets and check items billed. National chain, local brand. Slick ad card in the mail, offers septic service. House was built on city sewer in 1980. Surveillance capitalism is dumb and shit at its job.

That a solar panel makes real electricity isn't intuitive. Electricity needs vast infrastructure. Networks of pipelines, mile wide coal pits. Even hydro is dramatic. All visible work, to make watts. A panel is static, and also makes watts. It is a sly and epic creation, a great accomplishment.

i live 45 miles west of what was eastern time zone, and then Indiana started jacking around with their stuff. Then flying out of Indy required the website "what the hell time is it in Indianapolis right now?" For DST, keep or get rid of it, just don't move the fricking lines around.

Big Tech leaders say they love nuclear power. The last US nuclear plant built came online in 2024, costing $15B. That's 1.5% of Musk's $1T net worth. Why is he not building three of them? Is nuclear too expensive and slow for even him and the AI companies? They don't believe their own BS.

Claims that Ukraine is attacking Russian cargo ships with medium drones. The drones aren't big enough to sink ships, so they try to disable navigation. By attacking the bridges of the ships. Has a real "fuck that captain right there" feel to it. That's a miserable job right now.

Data center PPA contracts buy future power, so less power is for sale. Power prices rise, like RAM prices rose 4x when they bought it. Prices rise for phones, computers, anything w/RAM. They buy cheap clean power we paid to help build. You get to bid on the leftovers. They drink your milkshake.

Let's stop calling solar, wind, batteries, and pumped hydro names like renewables, or clean, or green, or anything like that. Let's name them accurately. The cheapest electricity.

Solar makes the cheapest power. Cheap surplus solar in batteries is driving gas plants off the grid. Burning nothing. The global transition to the cheapest, cleanest electricity ever made, abundant everywhere, is happening now. Not grim austerity and constraints. And it will change the world.

One person could pay for all annual global fossil fuel spending. Wells, mines, storage facilities, refineries, pipelines, ships, trains, millions of people, billions of barrels, cubic feet, and tons a day. The largest industry in history. All of it. One person. That's the scale of a trillion.

Stop saying they've spent $30B in the war with Iran. They stated $25B in the first days of bombing, in February. Nobody has given an updated accounting of spending. There's an aircraft carrier group out there. It was more than $30B 3 months ago.

Small jet, low enough its signal lights colorize my lawn in strobe, on the south run to the turn and approach to the runway 5 miles away, as thunder idles around, and lightning illuminates random clouds, and then one stick crickle crackles visibly near. Should be fine, but scurry, little jet.

Planned US data centers list projected demand at 333 GW. Peak demand for the Lower 48 states was 758 GW on July 28, 2025. Current DC's are 25 GW. Plans to add 333 GW new load to a 758 GW grid is... ambitious. A nuclear plant is 1 GW. 333 GW is 4x record load in TX, 6x record in CA.

Solar and wind generation in CA produces so much excess power that batteries charged during its peaks are filling in that lavender colored lump in the evening. I now officially have a crush on the California electrical grid. It's amazing.

CAISO nighttime gas usage is dropping to a couple percent. We're almost all renewable + some imports all day. California energy knowers, is the duck curve disappearing here?? We also just got daytime TOU rates that promote 10 am - 2 pm usage. 🔌💡
