It was so special to celebrate Ecuadorian Independence with my people and our @mayor.nyc.gov 🇪🇨 Queens is home to the largest Ecuadorian immigrant population in the U.S. As the first Ecuadorian woman to serve in the NY State Assembly, it’s an honor and responsibility to represent mi gente. ✊🏽

It was such a joy to visit Connected Chef, a Queens-based non-profit that provides Astoria and LIC families access to healthy, local, and affordable food! Their work is rooted in the value that food is a human right. 🥬✊🏽

Assemblymember Moreno, her staff, and Connected Chef leaders stand holding produce in front of a Mural at their Woodside location.

This morning, I stood with small businesses outside a vacant storefront in Chinatown, now advertised for an outrageous $16,000 a month. I am proud to co-sponsor the Small Business Rent Stabilization Act, which would create reasonable standards for commercial lease renewals.

I denounce Republicans’ escalating attacks on freedom of speech targeting New York City’s The People’s Forum. I stand firmly against the federal government’s attempts to silence organizers, and call on my colleagues to speak out and defend the rights and civil liberties of all New Yorkers.

My beloved homeland of Ecuador is going through a crisis of democracy and human rights under Daniel Noboa propped up by the Trump administration. It was an honor to meet with some the members of the Ecuadorian National Assembly who are fighting back. Todo, Menos la Dictadura.

Today, I had the distinct honor to meet with the Mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, to discuss how we can work together in service of immigrant quiteños in New York and affirm our shared commitment to human rights, social justice, and democracy. Proud to be a chulla quiteña. 💙❤️💙

Mayor of Quito Pabel Muñoz shakes hands with Queens Assembly member Diana Moreno. They are both smiling and standing in front of a flag of Ecuador and Quito.

Halting traffic arrests is not enough. Latino immigrants are being hunted down and murdered in cold blood. Children are being orphaned and traumatized by your tax dollars. Abolishing this barbaric violence is the bare minimum and first step required to restore justice for immigrant communities.

Congratulations to Astoria's Gabriel Santini Naughton on being named the 2026 New York State Youth of the Year! I was proud to present him with an official Assembly citation to recognize his achievement at the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens last week.

New York “charities” are funding Israeli settler organizations that ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their homes. Our state is complicit. But the tide is turning. Last month, 26 supporters of the Not On Our Dime! Act won their primaries. We have an obligation to pass this bill next session.

ICE murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. A hardworking immigrant dad who reminds me of my own. It’s no exaggeration to say that I fear for my father’s life under this regime. So many children of immigrants do. Lorenzo deserved to come home. Fuck ICE.

As we celebrate this Fourth of July in the extreme heat, we must reflect on the progress we have made and the work we have left to do. The great American experiment cannot continue if we sell our country out to climate deniers, fossil fuel executives, and for-profit utilities.

New Yorkers are facing extreme heat, and leaders in Albany and Washington are doubling down on fossil fuels and rolling back climate laws. Enough! Socialists have the solution: Build public renewable energy to protect our future, lower utility bills, and create green union jobs.

A heat dome will intensify over the Eastern U.S. this week, pushing temperatures into triple digits and likely breaking records across three dozen states, according to NOAA. https://wapo.st/443px1L
