It was so special to celebrate Ecuadorian Independence with my people and our @mayor.nyc.gov 🇪🇨 Queens is home to the largest Ecuadorian immigrant population in the U.S. As the first Ecuadorian woman to serve in the NY State Assembly, it’s an honor and responsibility to represent mi gente. ✊🏽

It was such a joy to visit Connected Chef, a Queens-based non-profit that provides Astoria and LIC families access to healthy, local, and affordable food! Their work is rooted in the value that food is a human right. 🥬✊🏽

This morning, I stood with small businesses outside a vacant storefront in Chinatown, now advertised for an outrageous $16,000 a month. I am proud to co-sponsor the Small Business Rent Stabilization Act, which would create reasonable standards for commercial lease renewals.

I denounce Republicans’ escalating attacks on freedom of speech targeting New York City’s The People’s Forum. I stand firmly against the federal government’s attempts to silence organizers, and call on my colleagues to speak out and defend the rights and civil liberties of all New Yorkers.
