This is a deal between two men who are desperate to look like they have cards on their hands: 1. Putin had to lift an export ban after Ukrainian drone strikes to deliver a symbolic amount of diesel. 2. Trump pretends that it will make a difference for diesel prices in America.

The only “highly successful discussion” you need to announce after talking with Putin is about Russia ending the war. You know like you promised you would do in 24 hours dozens of times during the campaign.

Zelensky seems tired of the American administration. But he is right: It is dishonest to claim that there is a diplomatically impossible situation when there are plenty of levers they could pull if they wanted to.
