It's up to you to decide whether to try to convince others that your concerns and beliefs are worth adopting. Showing up doesn't mean you'll win, but not showing up means you'll be fringe. There are no awards handed out for telling the world you're exhausted that most people disagree with you

This is groundhog day medical misinformation hell. Not OP's fault: 1. Most science journos have been laid off 2. Mainstream outlets rarely touch this meaningfully 3. This leaves a gap that's filled with partisans chanting TORDOFF 2022! TORDOFF 2022! etc jessesingal.substack.com/p/researcher...

I'm baffled by the designation of SEGM as a hate group. I reached out to the SPLC repeatedly to try to get them to explain it to no avail. I've never seen anything that would justify that label and the SPLC's written claims were truly bonkers. jessesingal.substack.com/p/the-disast...

Bluesky users are objectively in favor of violent threats deployed against the 'right' targets. When Bluesky does the right thing and bans or suspends one of its many users who engage in violent threats, the only possible explanation is a conspiracy theory.

I think what annoys me the most is advocates for youth gender medicine simply *lying*, for years, that doctors only prescribe these treatments after careful deliberation -- long after we've known that this isn't the case. It's hard to fathom the recklessness www.thefp.com/p/a-legal-fi...

A Legal First That Could Change Gender Medicine

At 16, Fox Varian got a mastectomy while undergoing a gender transition. She sued her psychologist and plastic surgeon for leaving her ‘disfigured for life.’ Benjamin Ryan reports from the courtroom.

I made it clear in the piece that I think violence is a bad and counterproductive solution. I don't think anyone can read it and honestly accuse me of endorsing violence. Plus Trump has (remarkably and against what I expected) dialed down the tensions a bit since then anyway.

@jessesingal.com "In light of the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis, I’m worried that it’s getting harder and harder to make the standard anti-violence argument in good faith." Is that what you would have said to Gandhi and MLK?

U.S. District Court Judge Patrick Schiltz (Republican-appointed in ‘06): “ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”

yeah i don't equivocate on this in the piece -- my argument is that prior, c2020 arguments against violent protest seem to no longer really apply, though there's actually been some de-escalation on trump's part (somehow) over the last day or so

If protests become violent, that will give legitimacy to the government's use of violence. Keeping protests non-violent is *absolutely essential* for them to be effective, and for protesters to maintain, unequivocally, the moral high ground.

That's me -- I forced mainstream trans activists and their attorneys to appeal this case to SCOTUS, to make a Title IX argument based on sex discrimination, and to then, when asked what their definition of 'sex' is, say they don't have any. I would have gotten away with it too if not for bluesky.

Bluesky's power users are in favor of violent threats, as long as the people receiving them "deserve" them. This is a much more complex and subjectivity-laden stance to take than the mods' stance, which is violent threats are always bad. The power users hate the mods for this.
