#cdoftheday #NowPlaying 3/100. William Onyeabor, ‘World Psychedelic Classics 5: Who Is William Onyeabor?’ (compiled 2013) From a tiny Luaka Bop section on the bottom shelf. You know this one. Could’ve picked something more obscure but tbh I haven’t spun this comp enough. Tracks date from 1977-1983

#cdoftheday 2/100. Dionysos, ‘Song For Jedi’ (2002) I said CDs, not albums. This is from the singles shelf; forgot I had it. Indie-folk quirk from France, bought while I was living in Brussels. Lead song recorded and mixed by Steve Albini. Not as surprising as the fact the band are still active.

The Zenith "Space Commander" was the 1st TV remote control and used no batteries. Each button cocked and fired a hammer into 1 of 4 calibrated metal rods of different lengths which generated an ultrasonic tone like a tuning fork. The TV had a microphone to listen for it.

#NowPlaying Rüdiger Lorenz, ‘Invisible Voices’ LP (1983, reissued 2014) Previous post (Hydrus): an LP I bought from Mat @ When Spaceships Appear at least 18 months ago, maybe longer (time flies). This LP is from the same source, purchased today on Mat’s recommendation

This is the 2014 reissue on Anthology Recordings (copy no. 318/1000) A monochrome painting of a space scene, the surface of a planet at the bottom of the image, above it a galaxy of stars with a very large moon in the centre. I’ve placed a When Spaceships Appear promotional sticker in the top left corner (it’s not stuck on the sleeve, don’t worry). It has the WSA logo and the motto ‘Stay Out There’ in blue text on a yellow background.

A strong collection, well sequenced.
