#MusicChallenge #ElectronicTunes Day 4. Elsa Popping et sa Musique Sidérante (aka Elsa Popping & her Pixieland Band), “La Polka du Colonel” (1957) Arranged by André Popp, FX by Pierre Fantosme, the whole a result of cutting, assembling and splicing tape. Way ahead of its time. youtu.be/hxHE9zxtqIc
Back in 1979 or so (fourth grade) I remember our teacher Mrs. Wentz read all of _The Martian Chronicles_ to us over the course of some weeks. (This was before the Rock Hudson miniseries I'll add.) Heady stuff, but I'm glad of it. Of course, this story always sits with me. Today is August 4, 2026.

#MusicChallenge #ElectronicTunes Day 1. Pierre Schaeffer, “Étude violette” (1948) from ‘Cinq études de bruits’ Going roughly chronological. I’m abusing the stipulation “song” today, but the picks will gradually get more tuneful during the month. youtu.be/UxnkQos7pFc
Appreciation post for the beautiful watercolor painted by Renee Reighart for our new single, Biscuit Basin. Inspired by a trip to Yellowstone, the song combines cosmic country picking and lap steel with Moog sequences. Stream and preorder here: heronandcranemusic.bandcamp.com/track/biscui...

An easy August #MusicChallenge. Just post any electronic music song each day in August with the hashtag #ElectronicTunes. Early posts begin July 31st. Post any time.
I had a close encounter with a hummingbird hawk moth on Monday. My phone was too far away to get a video but went back to the same spot this evening and grabbed this shot in the last rays of the evening sun. @savebutterflies.bsky.social
#JulyAudit 31/31. Warmfield, ‘Calder: River of Industry’ (2026) @fauxchisels.bsky.social Finishing with a new release, an album tracing a river’s journey from the Lancs moors through West Yorks to Castleford. Just 2 tapes/2 CDs left as I type and you can now get the booklet separately. Link in ALT
#MusicChallenge #SongBuilding July 31st. Dome Suspect this may get a few nods, so here’s the instrumental mix: Public Enemy, “Welcome To The Terrordome (Terrormental)” (1989) Thanks to -sita- @ro-cocco.bsky.social for what became a much harder challenge than I was expecting! youtu.be/nR6jtZuhOq0

#MusicChallenge #SongBuilding July 30th. Eastern Yusef Lateef, “The Plum Blossom” (1962) From the LP ‘Eastern Sounds’ (h/t @robertbaldock.bsky.social who put this on a mix CD for me 20+ years ago) youtu.be/zb5m0GeL5_Y
#JulyAudit 30/31. Voyage Futur, ‘Wellen’ (2023) VF is a Viennese producer. The Chinese label that’s put out a few of his albums on vinyl describe him as an “ambient psychedelic nostalgist”, which will do I guess. I do love the artwork (original, not AI) and layout on both editions of this album.
NEW We are donating all proceeds from the release of the new Blue Tapes House Band release to support the medical bills and rehabilitation of BTHB member Eugene S. Robinson, who recently suffered a stroke that robbed him of the ability to speak, read or write.
This is TERRIBLE, I love it The start has some weird discordant sounds, and despite the long list of musicians I can't figure out quite what the hell is going on (it kicks though) The lyrics here, though, oh boy

#ClassicAlbumThursday Dion, ‘Suite For Late Summer’ (1972) From his contemplative, singer-songwriter period (with touches of country). All very nice though nothing stands out. Favourite song is maybe “Didn’t You Change”; I’m not really a harmonica person but Dion’s blowing on this is excellent.

I've been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support since my post about the struggles of Grassroots labels yesterday. Thanks to everyone who engaged in such a positive way, it really means a lot.
You're not supposed to admit you're struggling. But we r - and I know for a fact we're not alone. The grassroots is dying - it needs U to keep it alive. Buy something from a small label/press. Tell ppl about it who don't often support such things. Explain to them why it's so important. PLS SHARE.
#JulyAudit 27/31. Various Artists, ‘Puzzles of the Psyche’ (2026) It wouldn’t be an Audit series without an epic, digital-only electronic compilation. The 2nd of, so far, 4 themed comps - a 5th is in the works and open for submissions - curated by prolific podcaster and mixtape maker Trevlad.
Yclept Thorn in at #58 on the official downloads chart. Inbetween The Beatles and Nirvana 😂
Unexpectedly hugely sad to hear Bill Oddie has died. A brilliant songwriter, this one is a psychpop gem, shades of The Move and the Manfredd’s Up The Junction and catchy as hell. youtu.be/xYVBnizAwEE?...
