241. Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore (mubi, 2026 - Garth Jennings) I was a big Pulp fan - I was deep in the crowd for 'that' Glastonbury show and I saw them loads. But somewhere along the road I let my Cult Of Jarvis membership lapse and when they reformed I was unsurprised and unmoved. 1/2

240. The Dirty Dozen (HBO, 1967 - Robert Aldrich) Here they are, all the tough guys, tough guying around, all laconic and surly. The first 3/4s of the movie are brilliant, it's just a treat watching Cassavetes squaring off to Lee Marvin, Lee Marvin facing up to Ernest Borgnine and so on. 1/2
Saint Etienne started releasing records as I moved to North London. Those frazzled Camden comedown days always had Saint Etienne playing somewhere. And they've been there for 35 more years, reliably wonderful. Judging by how moved I was tonight, they meant more to me than I ever realised. 1/2

Bought a copy of the rediscovered Black Octagon / Pete Simonelli / McWatt album from 2011 on Lancashire & Somerset, it came with a copy of a 2012 Gigantes album also on L&S I know nothing about.

238. The Beguiled (torrent, 2017 - Sofia Coppola) Coppola is so good at this stuff. Claustrophobic, fevered, hazy female energy. The cast are almost all great (Kidman's accent isn't) and it all looks wonderful (when there's enough light: it's a gloomy movie). Much better than the Eastwood version
