Possibly my life would be easier if I weren't the sort of person who spends several minutes during revision verifying that the phrase "scattered like quail" isn't out of place in a story set in Spain (common quail are resident in southern Spain, breed farther north; 🌈now you know🌈 and so do I).

Having already named one of my least favorite tropes ("it was all a dream!"), let's make this an open question: what trope or plot device would you fire into the sun, never to be seen again? (Take it as a given that offensive tropes like fridged women and magical Negroes are already on the rocket.)

Are there *any* good iterations of the "it was all a dream" trope? By which I mean, cases where that's actually better than those events having happened to the character for real? (I hate this trope with the burning heat of a thousand suns, in case you can't tell.)

Constitution Day? Constitution? There's a name I've not heard in a long time... When we do remember that document, it's impossible to ignore its flaws & limits. But luckily, I argue in my new column, we have the Revolutionary state constitutions, often more radical expressions of inclusive ideals.🗃️

Netflix has announced a new reality series titled ‘THE NEW STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT’. The series follows 30 participants who enter a real prison and are randomly assigned as guards or prisoners. They must see if they conform to the roles or if morality wins.
