....so I figured I would use my allotted time on my upcoming panel about bad television endings to rant about The 100, because, let's face it, I have YET TO MOVE ON FROM THIS, but I just caught the latest trailer for yet another X-Files sequel and I may need to adjust this rant.

I recently booked a car viewing via a dealer's website, and didn't even realise I was talking to an AI chatbot. And fair play, it was great! Apart from it booking us in to the wrong department, for the wrong vehicle, and not telling anyone we were coming, which took half a dozen people to sort out.
....ok, this is EITHER your chance prove to Uncanny (and everyone else, quite frankly) that you ARE interested in reading little interviews of me, OR your chance to read more amazing fiction/poetry. (I suspect the second is what you're all really here for, but still!)
When the Uncanny Magazine Year 13: The Space Unicorn Believes in YOU! Kickstarter reaches 825 Backers, we will publish an exclusive Mini-Interview from solicited poet Mari Ness! JUST 30 MORE BACKERS!!! www.kickstarter.com/projects/unc...
like menus, FOH with that QR code nonsense, if you won't even print a menu how am I supposed to believe you'll be arsed to prep a meal worth the time and money
Not to be all RETVRN but everything was better with paper
“My fellow big rocks” heh. Now I’m imagining one moon saying, with exhausted frustration to another, “My lithosphere in Orbit“ to the tone of “my brother in Christ.”
Moon: Here I am giving you light, poetry, a way to track time, all while I'm constantly getting bombarded with space rocks and your response is to hit me with MORE things? Help me out here, fellow moons. Do we have some sort of lunar alcohol out there or something?
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman on rockets crashing into the moon: "It's not a big deal right now. The moon has clearly seen better days."
Textes from Sisyphus: UGH You are not goinge to BELIEVE what just happenid AGAYNE 🪨
Once again the past tense of English verbs, and specifically spelling the past tense of English verbs, is trying to destroy me. ("seek" to "sought" WHO CAME UP WITH THIS, OLD ENGLISH AND OLD NORSE FOLKS? WHO?)

Orlando Sentinel rather belatedly catches up on the issue I was mentioning a few weeks ago - Orange County voters didn't get a sample ballot mailed to them for this August primary: www.orlandosentinel.com/2026/08/04/n...
No sample ballots mailed to Orange voters’ homes for August primary
Central Florida’s other election offices, in Lake, Osceola and Seminole counties, said voters are getting sample ballots mailed to them ahead of the Aug. 18 primary.

....yeah, so I'm going to go on the record here as feeling VERY UNCOMFORTABLE with examining the "reproductive anatomy" of first graders wanting to join the softball/soccer team. Can we just, you know, NOT?
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

....I'd suggest taking advantage of this!

The best thing is when you are failing to write, and you look down and see a little black cat right beside you on the couch, pointing out that you can pet him instead. Or feed him treats. He's flexible that way.
Ahh...you were looking for another sign?! This is definitely it!! That's right Space Unicorns, there are ONLY 11 DAYS LEFT to fund the Uncanny Magazine Year 13 KICKSTARTER and reach those stretch goals!! We can do this!! Remember, the Space Unicorn believes in YOU!!! buff.ly/ASU9Kta
Speaking here purely in my capacity as a Florida resident: 1. Keep those vaccine requirements going, Catholic schools! 2. Fortunately, we have a couple of elections coming up!
NEW: Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, facing ethics inquiries for misconduct, has threatened to strip state scholarships from Catholic schools unless the Church rewrites its vaccine doctrine. It is an unprecedented attack by an American state on the religious liberty of the Catholic Church.
This is THE SIGN YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR to support the Uncanny Magazine KICKSTARTER!! buff.ly/9vsnOnl
It's been HOURS and not one of you responded with DON'T STOP BELIEVING I am disappointed in you all.
nobody ever wants to hire me as the lead singer for a Journey cover band
I don't even have a lukewarm music take. But my kinda chilly take is that the absolute best thing to sing in a car is anything by Journey, with bonus points if you don't have a single word of the lyrics even remotely correct.
Post your hottest music take. Mine is New Order is better than Joy Division.
(begins the whole seance process) (halfway through, realizes, oh, right) (checks, decides that the cost of buying/transporting a black sheep is just not in the budget right now also not into the whole sheep's blood soaking clothing right now)
we need to restrict Odyssey review discourse to people who have written the Odyssey
Here's what saddens me: if they had *actually asked* permission to reprint DSF (which is now only accessible via Wayback Machine), I bet a lot of authors would have said yes. But . . . they didn't. And given the lying, I can only assume it was for scammy reasons.
If anybody was excited that Science Fiction Weekly is aiming to "revive" Daily Science Fiction, you should know they are straight-up lying about having gotten permission from writers to republish DSF stories on their website. (Yes, I have sent a DCMA takedown notice.)
