Still trying to understand how it’s cool to borrow tens of billions of dollars to buy companies at a price they can’t refuse and then fire half the companies because you can’t afford to keep paying them to do the work that makes the companies good because you have so much debt to service.

Saw a video where someone takes the piss out people’s dumb AI requests and now I’m wandering around the house saying “hey cha-BBB why is the sky blue?” and other stupid thought bubbles and cracking up laughing and even my cats probably think I’ve lost my marbles.
For those heading down for Melbourne International Games Week & PAX, here is your reminder to BRING YOUR 3DS, for I am once again hosting a StreetPass meet. :)
I've had this stupid joke in my head for the past 3 weeks, I had to put it into drawing
One of my fave bits of my PhD research is being almost two years deep and now and then I discover a vein of reading I hadn't found yet. "Where the hell have *you* been?" I exclaim as I add another ten readings to Zotero.

Just watched “Who Killed The KLF” on SBS On Demand and it’s a really good documentary. If you knew them from the era, or you’ve only heard folklore, it’s worth the watch. And it goes away in three days so catch it while you can.

Narrator voice: the games industry does not value its media.
Games media cuts have felt unending for a while, but the mood feels especially grim among indie outlets with the latest wave of layoffs. More than ever, if the game industry values its media, it needs to support them. Buy some advertising, sponsor content, purchase subs. It makes a big difference.
The inversion of status quo by SCOTUS to mean “let government continue to act illegally” rather than “pause the government action to return the situation to before the government acted” makes the entire US legal system a laughing stock to anyone that ever studied law anywhere in the world.
Two federal courts have said Trump’s third-country removal scheme is obviously unlawful. And yet. prospect.org/2026/09/30/s...
Maybe we need to explain AI creative labour issues in sports terms so our nation’s leaders get half a clue? “Imagine if the robots came for the NRL, and there was no more blood and brain injury. You’d hate that, right?” Hmmm… probably not the right argument…

Here’s the rub: We cater to many readers, but as an indie, non-commercial publication, it’s that small portion of paid subscribers that keeps us afloat and allows us to pursue the kind of stories that earned these accolades. Please consider backing us if you believe in a better games media!

This century has been full of perfectly good tech that could last decades but for shitty plastic fabrics dissolving or rubberised coatings that turn gooey.
Can someone show the NFL people who complained about the size of the MCG today’s highlights so they see what a sport that uses the whole field looks like?
Gritting my teeth and listening to the Ezra Klein interview with Jensen Huang. It is really wild how bad Huang’s position is. So much hand waving, so much doubling down that cognitive surrender is the right path into the future for humanity. The billionaire class is so detached from the real world.

The actual headline on the story reads: “OpenAI hacked Medicare portal, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says”. This social headline is so milquetoast it conveys no reason why it’s even newsworthy.
AI agent accessed Australian government site, Anthony Albanese says
If ultimately there's no criminal responsibility for this incident here then FOI just became a lot easier if we ask AI agents to go find those documents for us. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

I guess it'll be a third radio spot in a row where I am once again calling for AI accountability as the only path to AI safety. No human gets a free pass for accidentally breaking the law. No company executive should get one for breaking laws at scale.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says OpenAI's "AI agent infiltrated" a Australian government website for healthcare statistics, accessing non-public information. PM says the company took three months to tell Australia.
Production 101 of the video courses exists because too many times indie studios know how to build a game, but not how to ship a commercial game. Production is a large part of what publishers evaluate, and the skill you need to ship. Available now for teams & freelancers both: courses.ramiismail.com
Algorithmic platforms are now full of 10-post Threads or clip-based videos that start off seemingly insightful, but by the third post or the 30 second mark you realise they're written by AI. It's a strong reason to be here where you can escape the lowest common denominator of attention economics.
Ludwig Season 2 is on now in the UK but it is unavailable to watch anywhere here in Australia. I feel like we've gone back in time with more and more delays in global TV show distribution.

So the same people who say Indigenous Australians can’t blame the settler colony for their troubles are also adamant they can blame new immigrants for theirs? Got it.
I hardly touch Kojima games but holy shit if Playstation wanted to open the door to Xbox winning some hearts, minds and console sales, this is the perfect way to help them do it.
Film reviewers don’t thank film companies for access to review their films. Would love to see more games reviewers stop saying thanks to games companies for access too.
