2nd Magpie Project Unveil Aural Fever Dream ‘Divine Intervention’

'Divine Intervention' continues the group's reflective and partly philosophical ethos. It's not a surprise, given how the project has become an outlet for escapism and introspection. This is lovable, ...

Cheers to the team at Flex music blog for review of Divine Intervention. Our "darkest and most emotionally complete" release, they say. No arguments here 😉 Find the song on digital platforms, including dreamy YouTube video by Mike Beecher. www.flexmusicblog.com/post/2nd-mag...

Chuffed to have a story in this. "Something in the Air" features accident-prone linguists, an ancient megalith, and aliens who really just want to be friendly. Their way.

There's a new issue of Kaleidotrope today!

Thrilled to make my @kaleidotrope.bsky.social debut in this issue, alongside so many other great stories. "Something in the Air" has linguists, an ancient alien artifact, and an unusual approach to defence against thrrats from other cultures.

Nice review from Bowe at Good Music Radar. "The hazy guitars, spacious production and almost shoegaze-like textures give it a distinctly dreamlike quality." Job done! Thanks, Bowe. www.goodmusicradar.com/rock/2nd-mag...

Thanks to the team at It's All Indie for the nice review. "A cinematic and atmospheric shoegaze gem blending moody Nick Cave-esque guitars with expressive, haze-filled vocals." We'll take that! 👍😁 www.itsallindie.com/2026/09/2nd-...

Some thoughts on what I write about. and why.

The Past Is Not Past: A Manifesto

“The past is never dead. It's not even past.” — William Faulkner, Requiem for a Nun The bones of the past In a years-ago job interview, I was surprised when an interviewer picked up on the reference at the bottom of my CV to writing fiction. “Tell us about these ghost stories,” he said. Unprepared, I muttered something mock-profound about ghost stories being a metaphor for the way the past affects the present.

Ahead of some exciting publishing news I've been doing some spring cleaning on my website (I tell you, it's like a teenager's bedroom in there). Feel free to look around. (I'll make it easier soon to find your way to the free stories, but it can be done!) www.chrisbarnhambooks.com/home/

Looking forward to this (full disclosure: I wrote the song! 😉😀)
