ICE agents have once again murdered an innocent person. We must demand accountability for the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and the at least seven others killed by ICE. This is not making America safer; it's a cruel, inhumane, and shameful act of terror.

The ICE officer who fatally shot Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston on Tuesday was not wearing a body camera because officers in that field office were not yet equipped with them, according to a DHS spokesperson.

Heartbroken to learn of the passing of former Alameda Board of Supervisors President Scott Haggerty, a dear friend, mentor and regionalist who shaped not just transportation in Alameda County but the future of the Bay Area. My heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues.

The Legislature has just passed the budget. I am grateful that after months of advocacy, we secured $15 million for the Children's Holistic Immigration Representation Project (CHIRP), helping immigrant children who would otherwise be forced to represent themselves in court.

Text: “No child should have to represent themselves in legal court proceedings. That is why I joined immigration advocates in calling for $15 million in funding for the Children’s Holistic Immigration Representation Project (CHIRP), helping children navigate complex immigration proceedings while getting connected to housing, education, and trauma-informed care. Today’s vote on the Budget Act of 2026 does just that, demonstrating California’s commitment to a more just and equitable justice system.”

Inspiring Juneteenth celebrations this weekend from throughout the East Bay, which is home to some of the longest continuously running Juneteenth festivals in the state. From Richmond to Oakland, our communities gathered to celebrate Black excellence and resiliency.

Remarkable progress at the housing development at El Cerrito Plaza BART. Thanks to its modular design, dozens of units were installed in just two weeks. The full project will have around 750 units, half affordable housing, helping families meet their housing and transit needs.

A crane lifts a modular housing unit at a transit oriented development construction site by the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station.

As a transit rider, I joined my colleagues and transit advocates in calling for the preservation of hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for transit programs that is at risk of being lost. Public transit is essential for our state's economy and addressing climate change. 🚆 🚍️
