Really disappointing to see things like this being said in the run up to the #MayoralElection - there is no “eight lane” scheme in #Rochdale or anywhere else for that matter. The current system only works for drivers, in a town where 1:3 households don’t have a car. We need #TransportChoice

Utterly. There’s a primary school within the scheme, and the government has made big play of promoting walking to school - it’s hard to square that with rat runners cutting to and from the M62 down a residential street.

Not one transport question at last week's GM Mayor's hustings. Nothing on the Bee Network, clean air, walking or cycling - despite transport being one of the biggest parts of the job. This is your chance to change that 🧵

Don't forget - today is the day that Rochdale Council is due to close the junction between Middleton Road & Manchester Road to prevent drivers cutting down a residential street to reach the M62. All houses in the #HopwoodTriangle scheme remain accessible via Coronation Avenue @walkridegm.org.uk

Same in Tameside. Dowson/Stockport Road. Hatched median, parking on both sides (and the houses all have large driveways). It's the main route through Gee Cross towards Hyde/Stockport, and passes the local primary school. It also passes where 400 new houses are planned on the edge of Gee Cross.

Even that scheme in Denton that remains on TfGM's 'Schemes near me' map is not happening. The latest plans for Denton specifically exclude segregated routes on main roads. Instead it's a wiggly off-road route looping around the main crossing. Terrible.

A cycle route was planned here in 2022, but it's since been cancelled (along with various other schemes in Tameside).

This is Edenfield Road - it’s a typical main road in #Rochdale, with a speed limit of 30 mph. There is plenty of room for a protected cycle lane without reducing car lanes or parking, and narrowing carriageway would reduce traffic speeds and make it safer for everyone #SaferStreets

Just a reminder that today #Rochdale Council will close the junction between Manchester Road and Middleton Road as part of the #HopwoodTriangle scheme. Residents have been asking for this for over 20 years, as Middleton Rd is a narrow residential street, not a cut-through to the M62.
