Patrick Stewart's death hit me so hard yesterday I can only post about it now. I was aware of him even before Star Trek from playing small but memorable characters in films like Excalibur, Lifeforce & Dune, but The Next Generation became & remains my favourite Star Trek mostly due to him. R.I.P.

A bearded Patrick Stewart wearing armour and holding an axe in one hand and Cherie Lunghi in the other arm, in Excalibur as Guinevere's father, King Leodegrance.Sir Patrick Stewart in a khaki suit and wearing glasses as Dr Armstrong in Lifeforce.Sir Patrick Stewart a skullet and blue eyes wearing a water suit as Gurney Halleck in 1984's Dune.Captain Jean-Luc Picard sitting on the bridge of the Enterprise on Star Trek: The Next Generation about to say "make it so".

patrick stewart more than maybe anyone else showed that you can take science fiction seriously on screen, that it can be profound and meaningful and that just because you're on a spaceship doesn't mean it's a joke I am tremendously grateful to him for that

Patrick Stewart, a trained Shakespearian, could have treated Star Trek as something hokey, which it kind of is, but instead brought those skills to make it something bigger than it was on paper and set. I’ll keep this monologue with me, and so many other moments, forever. Thank you, Sir Patrick.

This City is Ours is apparently meant to be about Liverpool gangsters so I can understand why they did this photoshoot of them dividing up a city for s2, but apart from the gun on the table near the edge of shot, it just looks like a show about town planning...

People sitting and standing around a table with a map of a city on it. There is a pistol on the table near the edge of shot. All the people look miserable and uncomfortable.

The marketing push for ROAR! (1981), the infamous film which saw 72 members of cast and crew injured by big cats, included comic strips printed in British weeklies like 2000AD. Drawn by the late, great Steve Dillon, they only hint at the jaw-dropping stuff in the film.

Had a bit of a scare with Molly last night. She somehow managed to split her ear open while scratching it - two close to the edge for a stitch so the vets glued it back together and it's held together nicely and she's all fine now. She has a checkup on Monday to see how it's doing.

A tiny Jack Russell Terrier sitting on the floor. Her right ear has a wound just under an inch long.

Teenagers on bikes have got bad enough not taking notice of pedestrians, but they're getting just as bad off their bikes, leaving them laid out in the middle of paths and pavements and even across shop doorways.

Talking of Zavvi, does anyone know of a good online replacement? I bought most of my nerdy stuff from there cheaper than anywhere else and they did some really good deals.
