Software and product management guy. Cloud Native, API and reformed service mesh guy, I guess. Dad. Husband. Oaktowner. I work at Nutanix, but this is my feed, not theirs.
It was a long talk with @kelseyhightower.com that got me to move from Mastodon and to delete my (then dormant) X account. He convinced me that AT and Bluesky were the right combination of technology and stewardship. My opinion: ANYONE posting on X is supporting Musk (by donating content).
Twitter died a long time ago and X isn't worth it. Before I made the jump, my ego was holding me back. I was too concerned with vanity metrics. I finally realized if you're posting stuff people want to follow, then they'll follow you, even when you leave. www.siliconrepublic.com/enterprise/k...
TIL how my 83 year old mother-in-law shares playlists with relatives (or rather, how they give them to her). Screenshots of Spotify 😂
Is there any way that other NYC orgs can put some of the unlucky 2965 techies to work? Asking for a friend* *me i'm asking for me. and also some other friends.
3,000 techies applied for 35 jobs with NYC's PIT Crews, and, as Levy writes, many of them are high-flying senior coders who are willing to take a massive pay-cut and forfeit their stock options to do something that's both technically excellent and meaningful to their users' lives. 53/
I was 14 and had been hit by a car. I had a bad, compound fracture of the tibia but sat in the emergency room for hours while they located my parents. When they finally did (and they signed off on surgery), a doctor said "We need to hurry because if the bone is infected we'll have to amputate."
A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"
I HIGHLY recommend Not Like Other Girls by @ghoulpus.bsky.social ! Delicious prose, reminiscent of LeGuin in its ability to make you ponder the role of gender in society. Absolutely loved it (and wanted more)!
Working with Sanjay on one of my first projects at Google will remain one of the highlights of my career. I wish him the best of luck.
Jeff and Sanjay, eternal best buds
Watching Terminator 2 with my 14-year-old son in the age of AI is really putting it in perspective. What's striking (and seems so unrealistic at this moment) is how willing Miles Dyson was to come around to the danger of the tools he was creating.
Quote of the year from @doctorow.pluralistic.net (on the price of printer ink): "At $10,000 a gallon, it would be cheaper to print your grocery list with the semen of a Kentucky Derby winning stallion." This Trevor Noah interview of Cory is gold. youtu.be/CK8M5sKWRkc

I hadn't noticed that our video team (finally!) posted the video of the interview I did with @kelseyhightower.com at our .NEXT conference. I can't tell you how much I love hearing him put *perspective* into the evolution of technology (yes, including AI). FUNDAMENTALS! youtu.be/i5DYUHKqzy4
The Fundamentals of Innovation: A Conversation with Kelsey Hightower

Wow. MCPs being stateless really does reinforce the parallels with web APIs. This feels just like 2013! The innovation (and the capabilities and business it opens up) is so exciting.
The interesting part of MCP 2026-07-28 is a removal. No handshake, no session ID header, no sticky routing. Servers scale horizontally the way HTTP has always scaled. We shipped support for it on day one. claude.com/blog/bringin...
I loved sitting down with Ashwini! youtube.com/shorts/uX-gw...
Do You Need an AI Gateway?

It's the latest episode of I/o You An Explanation! In this one, Ashwini Vasanth teaches me all about AI Gateways (and, for an old API guy, talks me through why API gateways weren't enough). And we reminisce about life before mobile phone navigation!) youtu.be/JED5IZlaR7Y

There is obviously a lower bound on the human-run mile (I mean, there’s a lower-bound on the photon-run mile), and all other speed records. I wonder what happens when we realize we’ve hit them. Or will we just keep moving out the significant figures, Zenoing forever?

I love summer, I love long days, June 21st is my favorite day...and this might be my favorite sunlight fact.
Every year on July 8th at 11:15 UTC, 99% of the world population gets sunlight ☀️
I had a great time sitting down with Laura Jordana and having her explain MCP on the latest episode of "I/O You an Explanation." Give it a listen/watch (here on YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts). youtu.be/rMAfBKLZkTk
