You remember our #ALife paper from 2023? doi.org/10.1162/isal.... One of my favourites! Experimental results are in, finally. You will most definitely enjoy reading about them. Coming soon! @lewisgrozinger.bsky.social @pglekas.eurosky.social

Ready for three days of exciting discussions to celebrate the anniversary of our research institute @i2sysbio.es
Definitely, a conference to follow closely and great research conducted by Crislaine at the Biocomputation lab @cnb-csic.bsky.social. Go meet her for details! #SynBYSS
Next conference in the Lab's agenda: the #SynBYSS conference that starts today in Barcelona. The agenda is absolutely spectacular: www.jcvi.org/events/synbyss. If you are around, go visit Crislaine Rocha at poster 17. Her research, on coupling sensors to gates is truly brilliant. #synbio
What if living cells compute in ways that silicon never can? Rather than mimicking computers, the future of biocomputation may lie in harnessing the unique information-processing strategies of evolution. Check this paper by @angelgm.eurosky.social and co. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti....
Paper out!! 🥳 We controlled bacterial growth by tuning native RNAP availability. Then, we studied the impact of growth and this RNAP availability over different NOT gates present in that strain. Great work with @mirobueno.bsky.social and @angelgm.eurosky.social 😀. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Growth control as a central regulator for tuning the cellular context - Journal of Biological Engineering
The cellular context decisively shapes genetic circuit performance, but the interplay between host and circuit remains difficult to control rationally. To address this challenge, we replaced the nativ...

(1/5) As promised, here a short thread about this work. Why Pseudomonas protegens Pf-5? It is a key environmental host with unique interactions with soil’s biotic and abiotic compounds. Thus great for our Lab’s goal: ecosystems computing. We needed to know how this host interacts with circuits.
Latest paper out! This piece was a challenge: logic, predictability, decidability, non-model organisms, design... Kudos to @juanricomol.bsky.social & Pablo Japón #syntheticbiology #synbio #biocomputation (I'll post more on this next week) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
I just joined the Computational Synthetic Biology group at @i2sysbio.es. Looking forward to exciting science and new challenges. Thanks to the people of the Biocomputation Lab at @cnb-csic.bsky.social for the amazing last few years.
Great to see this one out. I agree it was challenging but watching it unfold was definitely exciting. The team worked brilliantly, truly thankful!

New paper out!📢 Exploring the computing power of microbes that shapes the environment. In this short review we talk about the "complexity gap", the distance between bottom-up genetic circuits and microbial information processes. Key questions to improve #biocomputation. 🔗 doi.org/10.1016/j.mi...
Kudos to @crislaineksr.bsky.social and all the team on the publication of this review doi.org/10.1016/j.mi... regarding the complexity gap between current synthetic biology designs and the natural computing power of microbes.

Side story: NAND gates where one input deals directly with growth control, and it is the actual physical body doing the computation. This is our initial approach to morphological computing in living cells. #biocomputation #alife Our new strain KT-TTX is truly fascinating. Feedback welcome!
Preprint out! By controlling growth, via RNAP, we control the entire cellular machinery, and tune the cellular context into distinct, stable states. See how NOT gates behave! Kudos to @angeles-hg.bsky.social and @mirobueno.bsky.social 🔗https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2025.12.19.695408v1
Preprint of our work tuning bacterial growth, something that changes context for genetic circuits and therefore, their behaviour. Very interesting observations from both experimental results and a model describing it in this piece of work with @mirobueno.bsky.social and @angelgm.bsky.social! :)
