Entertainment journalist. These days for Vulture, TIME, AV Club, Inverse, and some others. I am one inch taller than Lee Pace.
for the funniest piece we've run all month, we talked to both the people who came up with “The odds of being swallowed alive by a whale are not zero.” and a whale expert who confirms that yeah, probably not zero www.avclub.com/whalefall-gr...
Whalefall restores the lost art of the movie tagline
Thanks to the Whalefall marketing team, "The odds of being swallowed alive by a whale are not zero" will live on forever.

Not one but two trailers for Johnny Depp movies ahead of my screening of Digger… tough beat
Saw both Tenzing and Everest: The Other Side this month and with the exception of Summit of the Gods, Everest movies <<< Everest documentaries. www.avclub.com/mt-everest-m...
Mt. Everest is too staggering to recreate, it can only be documented
Despite being the subject of plenty of fiction films, Mt. Everest just works best when we really get to see it in documentaries.

The accursed NYT list and its lack of animation surfaced an adjacent thought that I decided to finally put on the page: Bluey really is that good. re:frame #110, out now:
Canon is a trap, but also
Have you considered Bluey?

It feels so good whenever you see headlines that are clever, fun, and effective because they're written for humans instead of keyword-heavy, personality-free headlines that are SEO'd within an inch of their lives because they're written for the algo. www.avclub.com/beware-boiun...
You can't even see the stupid giant snake in the stupid giant snake movie Beware Boiúna
Despite its stupid-fun premise of a big ol' snake running amok in the Amazon, Beware Boiúna is so dark and ugly that even that doesn't work.

I think people who joked that Godzilla Minus Zero is rated R because “Godzilla shows hole in this one” should feel just a *little* bad. This is a heavy movie!
Echoing the many animation fans and/or parents who are noting that the NYT 100 list not having 'Bluey' or 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' is wild stuff.
I had a blast watching Resident Evil; it’s wild how it’s the complete opposite of one of my favorite movies of the year, The Bone Temple www.avclub.com/sympathy-for...
Our sympathy for the zombie has run dry
Zombie fans swarming to the theater prefer the comic mayhem of Resident Evil to the empathy of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

I am so Godzilla-pilled that I saw the hint o' lightning in the upper right corner of this shot from the new Godzilla Minus Zero trailer and thought "that looks like Ghidorah" roughly 2.5 seconds before the trailer confirmed that, yes, Ghidorah's in this one.
They're calling it the exception to Betteridge's law of headlines
All the Godzilla Happy Meals also come with Hedorah, the pollution monster made out of sludge, too. But it's not a toy… it's the dang food! 😂🤣😂🤣
Not included on this list are 'Song of the South,' because of how racist it is, and 'Space Jam: A New Legacy,' because it sucks shit www.vulture.com/article/best...

My final thing getting published today is a really fun conversation with O'Shea Jackson Jr. about what he watches with his daughter. (The hockey in the lede image is a photo mistake... wrong type of Stanley Cup... Happens to the best of us.) www.vulture.com/article/oshe...
What O’Shea Jackson Jr. Watches (and Listens to) With His Daughter

who will decide the outcome of Coyote vs. Acme? That's right, Juror #2.
Once you see ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ in theaters, you might be curious to check out more live-action animated hybrid movies — a film tradition as old as cinema itself. We’ve rounded up our 13 favorites here.

I wrote the first draft of this for @vulture.com in 2022, originally pegging it to Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers. We didn't get it up in time for that movie, but we thought "No big deal! Coyote vs. Acme is coming out soon!" Anyway here we are, four years later! www.vulture.com/article/best...

[in the heavens the moon turns a haunting blood red] finally some good fucking news
I profiled the ‘Too Many Cooks’ guy and talked about his first theatrical movie, ‘Buddy,’ which is maybe the most normal thing he’s ever made (meaning it’s still totally insane and deranged). time.com/article/2026...

I cannot express how wonderful and bizarre it is to have Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck speak directly to you, but their voices are coming from the mouth of a human being. www.vulture.com/article/eric...

“That probably doesn’t happen in a Space Jam,” says Eric Bauza, who voices most of the new film’s Looney Tunes.

A ban on entertainment news sites using the word "officially" in headlines
a fun detail here is that the Japanese movie Rex: A Dinosaur's Story wasn't streaming anywhere nor could I pay money to rent it, but I was able to find a stream of the movie on some Russian site in with Spanish subtitles. I don't speak any of those, but I had the Wikipedia summary and context clues.
Obviously Jurassic Park is the best dinosaur movie, but if you really study the film fossil record like a multiplex paleontologist, you'll find some great ones! (Including The End of Oak Street, which whips so much ass) www.vulture.com/article/best...
