Whew 9/11 rescue dogs. Poor things got so down, working so hard for so long w/such little “success” (recovering bodies), some handlers resorted to having human responders hide in the rubble so the dogs could experience “finding” them. Dogs experienced prolonged depression after weeks of searching. 🇺🇸

To me, the biggest upside to publisher rejections is this: you might figure out a waaaaaaaaaay better way to write the thing later. Two weeks later. Two months later. Two years later. Um, I'm living that RIGHT NOW. I've lived it lots. Sometimes you've actually dodged a bullet.
