No reason to leave the credit out of an image post, imo. There’s plenty of space to say that the bright blue dot is Earth seen from Saturn, and also credit the folks with the attribution they requested. CREDIT: NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute

An image looking back at Earth from Saturn. Earth appears as a bright blue dot just under the rings, which are gold and tan arcs cutting across the top third of the image. The disk of the planet is black, with a bright arc outlining its edge.

The physicist and astronomer Karl Schwarzschild was born #OTD in 1873. In 1915, while serving in the German army on the Russian front, he found the first exact (non-trivial) solution of Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Among other things, it describes a non-rotating black hole. 🧪 ⚛️ 🔭

This scraper account posts other people’s stuff without credit. They grudgingly post a separate attribution after the fact, if enough people call them out. Any time an account says “dm me if you own the original,” just put them on the block list. Don’t let these accounts get a foothold here.

Like many scientists, I’ve been mulling over the impact of LLMs on our fields. I’ve not yet seen it articulated, but I think there is a largely unspoken “invisible labor underclass” framework at play.

our parrot has decided he loves campbells tomato soup. since he can only drink like, a shotglass full of it, we always have a bowl (minus one shot) of tomato soup leftover. because of this i have perfected my grilled cheese procedure:
