SOLAR OBSERVING SAFETY 1. Use high-quality (e.g. not from Amazon) eclipse glasses any time even the tiniest part of the sun is visible 2. Never look though DSLRs, binoculars or telescope with only eclipse glasses 3. Always inspect eclipse glasses for punctures and scratches before use Have fun!

Apropos of nothing, the German word for diarrhea is “Durchfall” which literally means “through fall”. The German word for case is “Fall” as well, so “diarrhea cases” are “Durchfallfälle”.

Congrats Austria for the highest-ever measured temperature there! (105.8°F/41ºC in Vienna today). Here in the DESERT (latitude 32ºN btw, Vienna is 48ºN) it will reach 104ºF today.

Low key I think REPL interfaces for LLMs are popular with the techbro crowd mostly because of some sort of perceived superiority of text adventure type UIs, just like the OG MIT AI bros used. Plus GUIs are perceived as soft, mushy and feminine.

Finally found a nice set of the matching speakers for the iMac G4. The aluminum boxes they sell today can’t hold a candle against early 2000s Apple design.

iMac G4, which looks a bit like a lamp base with a semi-floating LCD screen attached to it with the special translucent spherical acrylic speakers.

I remember volunteering with colleagues to help screen patients to take pressure off of nursing staff. I remember people protesting outside of the hospital trying to get in with cameras to film the supposedly empty hospitals, and feeling an incandescent rage response at their profound stupidity.
