I was always bothered by capture-the-flag rules. A line instantly reverses who tags who out. Being in jail is no fun. At one point I got some power in an intramural organization and tried to fix it: on contact, both players are out until they touch their base. Nobody understood it was better.

From the vibes of my local Democratic Club, CA gov race probably won't do the jungle thing. People understand they can't support a single digit candidate even though they like them. They don't like Porter being abusive, Swalwell being pro Israel, or Steyer being a billionaire.
