Shatner. The thing that made Shatner click for me was in his book Leonard, a tribute to Nimoy. Nimoy was a method actor, he taught method acting, he wanted to understand and embody his characters. Shatner's acting is based purely on making *this* scene entertaining.

The universe's idea of a joke
looking up a guy who ran a word processing company and wrote a thing about killing the "social office" that got cited in Braverman's Labor and Monopoly Capital, and, well, this is an exciting obit detail
no matter what happens here, I think the American electorate might be less predictable than any I've seen in the entire world. This doesn't even make sense anymore.
My dumbest hobby horse is that I'm convinced the "brussels sprouts were bred to taste better" story is essentially an urban legend that at best wildly exaggerates an underlying true story. It's very weakly sourced and all of the evidence I have found goes against it.
Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe
shout out to harold m. lambert, one of the greatest stock photographers of all time. seriously, look at these pictures!

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.
Developing a trollish-take that all the AI-megacorps with Effective Altruist leanings should switch their allegiance to one of China or India, because they have the most people
Alright, as a polling guy I do have to say MAHA polls, at best, -50 with Democrats generally and closer to -70 with the more engaged electorate…among “non-supporters of MAHA” (e.g. high-engaged Dems) it’s -73 lol docs.google.com/viewerng/vie...

we talked about this more at the time but initially a lot of the ppl who died were in big blue cities and were not white. this is not incidental to the revisionist and eugenicist nonsense we hear now.
this boils down to "the pandemic didn't actually happen but they still closed the applebees" which frankly i think is a trauma response by a lot of people that buy it - lot easier to be in denial that things were that bad instead of reckoning with 1.3m dead people [in this country]
I put on The Last Stand for some reason and all I can think of is the greatest tumblr post of all time
It’s a beguiling two-for-one and, indeed, nobody in the entire broad American left of center can resist it, just continually accusing each other of being out of touch. Elected Democrats accuse Dem voters, Dem consultants accuse electeds Democrats, Dem autopsy writers accuse Dem consultants.
Every coffee that sounds like a brand from the post-apocalyptic world is the Gentle Stuff For Seniors, but every coffee that sounds like an Etsy shop or a discrete sex toy is gonna have caffeine that can raise the dead
There's a whole industry of Manly Coffees now that are just shitty Folgers knockoffs with names like Battle Warrior Brew and Sexpest Instant Blend
Bluesky boomer slop: peanuts from the cartoon peanuts but he's 57 and wants price controls on eggs Bluesky millennial slop: this queen (woman from thispersondoesnotexist) killed her boyfriend because he didn't appreciate her love of train facts
It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"
Because it's not about making money. I mean, the staffers and Trump are absolutely insider trading on this, but it's chiefly about trying to delay the moment the country collectively looks down and notices there's nothing beneath our feet.
How many times has this "Friday evening - total Iran annihilation, Monday morning - close to make a deal" shit has been repeated already? You'd think the greediest pump-and-dump capitalist shark would be satiated by now. And yet.
I don't think anyone should be judged for having an ugly voice, obviously, but can you imagine the hay conservatives would be making out of a Democratic admin having an HHS secretary who sounded like he was one convulsion away from dying?
Whatever you do don’t take me to The Island from The Prisoner! I’d hate to live in a cool rent free apartment full of bold late 60s modern furniture haha noooo a bubble don’t chase me haha
Solving outstanding mathematical problems is, of course, precisely the kind of thing computers were invented for, but it *is* weird that it's being done by dolled-up textual prediction models
I know better than to say they're obviously way off, but I think that it's hard to reconcile the numbers coming out of the Michigan senate race with other state-level polls
Michigan - Senate Polling: 🔴Rogers: 45% 🔵El-Sayed: 45% 🔴Rogers: 45% 🔵Stevens: 41% Mitchell Research / July 29, 2026
But do they call me Oedipus the Sphinx-slayer? No. Do they call me Oedipus, savior of Thebes? No. Do they call me Oedipus the relentless seeker of truth? No. But you fuck your mother one time…
some might say that ancient Greek literature’s lack of easy villains is a form of intellectual maturation, but I gotta shut up, we’re talking pop culture here
people constantly get negatively polarized into being racist. sometimes they get better from it. other times worse. people genuinely change their beliefs
i'm sorry what the fuck. gillibrand attends a church which teaches that COVID was God's punishment for permitting gay marriage?
NEW: Corporate media zero in signs of antisemitism on the left. Meanwhile, one of Rep. Haley Stevens's most powerful backers in her Senate race attends a Bible study that teaches that the Jews killed Jesus...
A friend of mine argues that Trump generally manic-posts when he’s stuck in the situation room bored and waiting for something to happen, i.e. he thinks it’s correlated with Trump ordering military stakes and looking at his phone while waiting for them to be carried out
He's now on one of his insane posting sprees - several about how young he looks, a doctored photo of Springsteen to make him look old (such dignified presidential behavior), posts about his dumb monuments, several posts showing him as George Washington or with an alien, and a threat to Greenland.
the president of the united states regularly goes on incredibly embarrassing unhinged posting sprees full of AI slop and somehow the entire political system just reacts like the This Is Fine dog
