I wonder to what degree this is perhaps not solely a Trumpism thing, and perhaps more of a microcosmic example of a wider American exceptionalism that would, due to its youth, completely fail to comprehend what a civilisation really is and how it manifests in a people. Not the first time I'd argue.

It was the Trump administration’s White Supremacist views that ultimately did for them in Iran. They couldn’t conceive that what they perceived as an inferior race could ever win, so they didn’t prepare, didn’t try to understand their enemy’s culture, and so were defeated.
