Good old @theguardian.com, urging Jews to celebrate Purim by reflecting on "the evil that Jews commit" and "the danger we pose" to non-Jews... "With the blood of their foes barely dry, the Jews feast and make merry." Happy Purim! www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

As Jews celebrate Purim, let us end the slaughter in Gaza committed in our name | Peter Beinart

Our refusal to reckon with the dark side of Purim reflects a refusal to reckon with the dark side of ourselves

All that talk of decolonisation, freedom fighters, liberation & resistance, and it ends with Jewish children paraded in coffins as grotesque propaganda props by Hamas. It feels like the right day to remember how some people welcomed October 7 at the time everydayhate.substack.com/p/now-we-see...

Now we see you - again

So this is what it has come to: all that talk of decolonisation, of freedom fighters, of liberation and heroic resistance.

If Palestinians want to leave Gaza and live somewhere else, then if there are other countries willing to offer them residency or citizenship they should be able to go. The moment they are forced against their will to leave en masse, it is ethnic cleansing. I don't see how it can be anything else.

Striking how similar the sentiments - and even exact wording - is on this Hamas banner to the placards and chants on protests in the UK. “Nazi Zionism”, victory to the resistance, etc. Different parts of the same movement.

📽 Catch up now on a fascinating talk by @daverich1.bsky.social, Antisemitism and the Holocaust since October 7 He explored how antisemitic tropes and understandings (or misunderstandings) of the Holocaust may condition responses to the conflict in the middle east:

Every single time this argument comes up it is Mizrahi erasure. Worse -- it's not just forgetting Mizrahi and other MENA Jews exist, it's insisting their very identity is a form of theft. They must choose: they can be Jews, or Middle Eastern, but not both.

Israel destroying Syria's air force, navy, chemical weapons and other strategic military assets, so that jihadists or anyone else can't use them, is the kind of thing that governments across the Middle East and Europe will be secretly cheering while publicly condemning www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
