Just in time for the latest oil price spike, we published our article urging the ECB not to hike rates to fight a supply shock. Europe needs a new inflation governance for shockflation. We need disaster preparedness for essentials instead of increasing investment costs.

In 1990, when we started caring about climate change, transport was only the 3rd largest sector in the EU, well behind energy supply & industry, and barely higher than residential emissions Now it's the largest as emissions in those sectors have declined while it stayed stable

Also notable that Fritz Scharpf's ideas about input and output legitimacy come up in Ezra Klein's interview with Anton Jager today. You could construct a pocket political history of Germany around the debates in MPIfG in the mid-1990s.

I feel sorry for the dentists and doctors. I also recall my presentation in 2024 at a meeting of their pension funds' asset allocators in Cologne. I delivered my usual message: Channelling pension capital into private assets is a really bad idea. They were not happy. Oh well.
