So appreciative of the grinding Gil has been doing to get to this. I did a workshop yesterday & the students had listened to episode from 2025 that featured interview with Gil from 2024. What stood out was not only how on it he already was, but how much he felt like he was screaming into the void.

So many people I encounter, especially in HigherEd, believe the only strategy for this moment is "keep your head down." @debtcollective.bsky.social didn't change priorities in 2024, nor in 2020, nor in 2016. They barreled ahead. There first big win was $800 million. This one is $11 billion.

I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

This past weekend I got to spend time with legendary humor scholar, Judith Yaross Lee. She had not yet seen DD, but her grand theory of Spielberg made me feel good about my review, especially her argument that his oeuvre relies on violating Yiddish formulas for the sake of Christian viewers.

This review made me think about so much. I may see the movie to deepen my understanding of the review. I think this explains so much about Spielberg movies in general. I've enjoyed them, but it always feels like something is missing.

Thank you for checking your circulation! (Love libraries, man.) re: the non-book materials is also about methodology. I included them after a pretty extensive search for AI books written from the “other” (uncritical) side. there aren’t many & none of them met my other criteria: rigorous, readable.

One of my favorite ideas in this episode & in @mckenziewark.bsky.social’s contribution to the e-flux issue is that escapes (real & virtual) from totalitarian supervision are as tactical as confrontations. Not being where you’re “supposed to be” - whether place, platform, or occupation - is radical.
