So leaf, and root, and every reaching vine Conspire in one slow ministry of green, For revealing, in their own changing shine, What never otherwise could well be seen: That deathlessness itself forever lies Folded in everything that blooms and dies. #vss365

And here I meet the shadow of my 11yr old self with the shade of my dog Susie and her boon companion Poppy. It’s the only place I have of a childhood memory in this country.

Green banks and a rippling shallow chalk stream

1AM. In the woods, my torch glistens leaves, bejewels berries. I reach open field & orient myself. Street lamps & London’s false dawn in the east glow the sky. Stars are faint, the Plough low, Polaris’s strange fixity dull. Sensing that I’m becoming Leonard Bast, I lie on the grass, straw dry & soft
