I adored reading as a kid. Like, if I didn't have something else I *had* to do then I was reading. I can't remember enjoying a single assigned book. I get that reading only "for fun" doesn't train you on allegories and such particularly well, but neither did reading books I didn't care about.
My daughter wrote a research paper in college about the lack of SF/fantasy in school reading lists, with a kind of unspoken "OMG why is everything so depressing" part to it. Even when they do read SF, my kids both read The Martian Chronicles in 10th grade. Good book but aaaaaaaaah I cried a lot.
OMFG Look, I blocked this doofus a *while* back, my timeline has been all the better for it, but this deliberate and willful misunderstanding of Boots Theory is going to turn me into the Joker.
