I already posted this yesterday but it is an extraordinary picture that I need to reshare. Tony Yap, a Caltech grad student, is showing Harrison Schmitt, Apollo 16 astronaut, a sample that he (Tony) is currently measuring zinc isotopes on. The sample was collected by Harrison Schmitt. From the moon.

Worth noting that this is how she experiences the smells after months on ISS, when her sinuses are blocked by fluids and long after she has become nose-blind to the overall "ISS odor"

My photo collage shows a Roman gold body chain from the Hoxne Hoard. Left photo: close up of the jewelled mount at the front of the body chain; a roughly oval gold setting for nine gems. The centre oval cell contains a cabochon amethyst surrounded by four almond-shaped garnets (one damaged) which alternate with four empty circular cells still containing some sulphur. These may have contained pearls. The chain terminals are decorated with lion heads. Top right photo: view of the front of the body chain displayed on a mannequin at the British Museum. The body chain is composed of four chains which are joined to form an upper-body decoration which passes over the shoulders and under the arms of the wearer, crossing at the front and back. Bottom right photo: view of the back of the body chain which has a clasp with octagonal mount set with a gold coin of Gratian. Discovered in 1992, the Hoxne Hoard was buried some time after AD407/8 when Roman rule was breaking down in Britain. Made up of gold jewellery, silver tableware and more than 15,000 gold and silver coins.

How bad was the Venezuelan quake? It lifted my country's - Trinidad and Tobago - coastline in some areas by 20 feet. We are many miles from the epicenter, though only a few miles from the Venezuelan coastline. And yes, we felt it. trinidadexpress.com/news/local/q...

Such cool science! Scientists transmitted radio waves from a radio telescope out to one of Jupiter's moons, then received the reflected waves back at multiple telescopes and measured the radio albedo. Using circular polarization, they can measure the transparency of the global ice sheet. 📡
