Yesterday night I introduced my wife's cousin and his GF to #D&D via #BECMI because that's what I had at hand. He asked me to play D&D and realized it was an RPG about halfway into the introduction. A thread on paying with the purest newbies I've ever met.

Yesterday was the first day of Total Party Kon, the Italian OSR convention I organize. I have a lot of stories, but this picture marks the first appearance of FanX as a physical object and I want to share it.

A gaming table, with a huge point-crawl-like map prominently at the center. Scattered around are character sheets, tangerines, water canteens, pens, dice, a deck of playing cards and two copies of a book titled FanX. One of them has the cover printed the wrong way.

This is not how corporations respond to an ineffective protest. This is how they respond to a protest that they would like to have go away. So don't let it go away. Keep it going. In fact, Streissand Effect this shit. Call attention to how much they want this to go away.

Yep. Tolkien knew what he was doing. I don't agree with him about a lot of stuff, but the Shire is pretty clearly intended to be a reflection of both the positive and negative aspects of small town/rural life

The Shire's isolationism is also criticised by the narrative in Lord of the Rings, moreso in the books. The Elf Gildor points out how their "traditionalism" relies on a selective version of their history, and when Saruman takes over, it's the more traditionalist Hobbits who willingly fall in line.

Today I cut off a lot of social media, because my brain can't keep up. I kept only platforms which make me feel good (like this) or which I have to use for work (like LinkedIn). The intersection is weird, nearly comical in its absurdity.
