Trans people and feminists keep refining approaches to our collective liberation. This great new article by @matthewjcull.bsky.social, @fionawoollard.bsky.social and Jules Holroyd recommends a pluralist approach to inclusive language, building on the Brighton & Sussex midwives' additive approach.

Ready for the Southampton Science and Engineering Festival! If you are around Southampton and want a day of fun family activities, come to the Science and Engineering Festival! I’ll be running an activity ‘Who’s in Your Family?’ drawing on my work in philosophy of parenthood. #SOTSEF

I asked my students to guess what I was attempting to draw here. ‘A melting snowman?’ No. ‘Someone who got hit by a trolley?’ No. They did guess. (And responded with laughter and groans.) Can you guess? (Sorry no alt text possible for this one.)

An indescribably bad drawing. An indescribably bad drawing.

Every year, for my first year Ethics module. I do a syllabus quiz and give away Crocrates the inflatable philosophical crocodile as the prize. I’ve just been online to make my annual Crocrates order and saw this. A Crocrates suit. It’s calling to me…

I feel as if I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will soon emerge from marking and teaching and have precious time before Christmas to finish a paper and book proposal. I’ve actually loved this marking (fun assessment, students wonderful), but I am looking forward to my research time!

I was talking to a child who was scared of butterflies. I explained flight patterns and how they are unique to each species. Explaining the reasons behind their seemingly chaotic behavior, helped replaced fear with curiosity. Sometimes fear around insects is just a fear of the unknown.

A painting of a pair of male and female goliath birdwing butterflies. The butterflies are lined up vertically with the male towards the top and the female towards the bottom. Charcoal sketches of branches with blossoms frame the bottom of the painting.
