Unfortunately, media has taken the upper bound of one model estimate (among many) and run with it to say Lake Sturgeon *could* live for over 400 years. This isn’t necessarily what the science says, and methods used are somewhat tenuous. Several other fish aging experts agree it’s an overestimate.

Just translated an excellent academic paper from Spanish about how Tropical Gar (or pejelagarto) were influential in Yokotan Mayan people.
