That’s how the “mandatory hi-vis for cyclists” in Ireland feels. Fluorescent clothing won’t fix unsafe roads. It shifts responsibility onto the person on the bike instead of addressing the real issue: poor road design and lack of protected cycle lanes. We need safer infrastructure 🚲

There I am, in the city center (mind you, I live 5 km away from it), running an @iscycle.bsky.social focus group about e-bike perceptions… when this woman goes, “Well, I do know someone who’s always biking around. But they’re foreigners, so you know… different habits.”
Pedestrians and cyclists (those curious creatures who produce no emissions) already enjoy a grand total of about two advantages compared to cars. One of them is supposed to be priority at zebra crossings. Supposed to be.
The only problem I see here is that there’s only one woman on the panel discussing the future of mobility. To build a truly inclusive future, we need equitable representation and diverse voices at the table. @smartcityexpo.bsky.social #SCEWC25
